98.7's audio barely sounds better than a poorly encoded MP3 file.

It has the same grungy, tinny digital sound that WRIF (and several other stations) do. It's very noticeable during Volbeat songs. It's not quite the same crappy sound as low bitrate source audio, but similar.
I'm guessing they mostly use the same audio processing equipment. I've always been able to pick crap like that out by ear (friends were always amazed when I could tell them that they had one speaker wired out of phase).

The (fake) HD on 98.7 is especially shitty sounding at times.

Just got back from some errands. The HD side sounded cleaner today than last week, so that's good.

WRIF's HD 1 sounded like absolute trash, though. That's surprising because WCSX cleaned up its crappy audio in a major way a few weeks back.
