Tim Achterhoff R.I.P.
It is with great sadness that I make this post. My long time friend Tim Achterhoff passed away on Sunday October 6. Tim was the long time Program Director/General Manager at WMUS in Muskegon. Tim started at MUS as a 17 year old kid in 1965. He was the one who suggested to management that they change the format from their Middle of the Road format to country in 1966 and the rest is radio history. Tim worked at WMUS for 28 years, becoming the General Manager and part owner of the station sometime in the 70's. Under Tim's leadership WMUS became the most listened to station in Muskegon and the top billing station. They even had some in-roads into the Grand Rapids Market, at times getting as much as a 6-7 share in the Grand Rapids ratings. Tim also had a hand in the other stations owned by WMUS including WJML in Petoskey (a station that at times had more audience than the rest of the stations in Northern Michigan combined) and stations in Duluth Minnesota. Tim left WMUS in 1994 and went to work for RCP Productions in Muskegon and worked there 30 years until his death. I never had the pleasure to work for or with Tim, but I've known him as a friend for over 50 years. Many of my friends did work for Tim and they all say he was a great guy to work for. He was all business, but treated people fairly and was a really nice guy. They don't make radio guys like Tim Achterhoff anymore. Tim, may you Rest In Peace.

I'm sorry for your loss. I knew of him, but never met him. Was he a poster here? So many times, users just disappear.
Take care.
Take care.
