I believe that brings us to two fatalities and at least two serious injuries for the year. At what point does the DNR step in and tell these toothless redneck dirt people that enough is enough?

They had a bad year. If it concerns you, don't go. I go every year and have a blast, even run a Biden flag on my rig. After reading the article I have a few thoughts:
You don't fall out of a vehicle if properly belted in. They check every vehicle when entering.
You are not to be walking around in the dunes except in a few designated areas.
Dirt bikers are some crazy fuckers.
Silver Lake is a very important part of the economy in that area, I sincerely doubt it's going away any time soon.

It's pretty clear some common sense safety procedures are not in place, or being enforced. I didn't advocate cancellation.
I'm a fan of drag racing myself. But as with this, it needs to be done safely and with common sense. It's always the idiots that end up ruining it for everyone else.

Look, It's illegal to walk in the middle of the Eastbound lanes on I75. People have gotten hit or killed.
It's illegal to drive without your safety belt, and people get killed weekly.
Is it a lack of law enforcement? Are procedures not in place?
Have you ever been to Silver Lake?

I rode at Silver Lake as a kid. It was a lot of fun. You have to have the proper guides and supervision. Blame the dumbasses violating safety rules.

So, it turns out the kids who was almost killed at the Dunes in this discussion by driving recklessly has died on his motorcycle in Grand Rapids. We should probably close down roads now...

That's the logic you use when people use guns recklessly.

Not quite, I am for banning AR riffles, just like we restrict speeds on the highway, just like we mandate safety features on cars, just like we require a license and driver's education.
I would be all for regulating guns like vehicles.

Great idea. So let's apply safety measures and procedures to Silver Lake as well to reduce and prevent future accidents and allow people to still have fun.

Again, visit and learn. Safety rules are certainly in place. Rules don't stop reckless users.

"Investigators say it happened when a Jeep being raced by a 64-year-old man accelerated rapidly, lost control and veered toward spectators, including the Price family."
Allowing spectators to line the path of a drag race with no barriers isn't an example of safety rules being in place.

Never ever in my time on this earth have I seen a Jeep accelerate rapidly... They are all underpowered pigs that can't get out of their own way.

So, here is a photo of the racing area. This happens every day for years with one accident. Explain how this is reckless? You seem pretty afraid... I stick with my original piece of advice to just don't go to the Dunes and you will be safe.

I mean, a quick glance shows how easily any one of those vehicles could veer off track due to mechanical issues, a crash, or a retard driver, and the only barrier in place being people and their vehicles.

And yet this has been happening since the 70's with one incident. AR riffles kill masses weekly. Take your concern elsewhere Karen...
