Why did they ask him such a stupid question? And why would TMZ focus on such a thing with a well rounded comedian actor? It just shows another example of how stupid the "Classic Media" really are. The man just died, and they focus on politics.

Funny joke he told once to Johnny Carson on the tonight show

“I’m half German and half Irish, which means I’m an unfunny drunk”

Here is a very funny skit, from Mad TV, with him playing his psychologist role.

MadTV was a gem of comedy back in the day. Outperformed SNL by a H*** amount.

He was my favorite comedian and I am glad I had a chance to see him.

This makes me sad as he was hilarious. That dry sense of humor he had and his comedic timing were priceless. If I see the original Bob Newhart show on TV, I will stop and watch it as it’s funny. Hoping TV Land does a marathon this weekend of that show….

I've been watching The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart at 12:30 AM and 1:00 AM most nights on Catchy TV, since the LPTVs came on. I'd seen just about all of them fairly recently, so I didn't watch the Marathon much. I also dreaded this recently. I guess one of the only ones from Newhart still alive is Julia Duffy, and they were good friends. Don't know about William Sanderson, or the Darryls.

CBS Saturday night lineup 1973-1974:

8 p.m.: All in the Family
8:30 p.m.: M*A*S*H
9 p.m.: The Mary Tyler Moore Show
9:30 p.m.: The Bob Newhart Show
10 p.m.: The Carol Burnett Show

50 years later...

CBS fall TV 2023 Saturday night schedule (https://www.tvguide.com/news/cbs-fall-t ... -schedule/):

8 p.m.: Encores/sports
10 p.m.: 48 Hours

The good news is that you can recreate that 1973-1974 lineup with MeTV, Catchy Comedy, and DVR.

Not a fair comparison of eras, as investment of today’s media dollars and entertainment goes to streaming platforms.

OTA broadcasts are dying off.

Having said that…

That Saturday night lineup from 73-74, could we say Saturday night was a traditional evening of low viewership and therefore they weren’t rating juggernauts at the time? That seemed early in all of those shows lifespans.
I think as those shows became wildly h__u__g___e___ successes and found loyal viewerships, CBS moved them to other nights as solid stable anchors of viewers (all in the family to Sunday’s, MASH to Monday’s).

If memory serves me correctly.
