Price hasn't gone on the road the past few seasons. Hopefully he'll retire soon.

Any idea why? Did Dan Dickerson want an extra day off for the All Star break?

You and me both. He’s way overdue to retire, as he’s 80. He’s also no Ernie Harwell either. The beaten to death catch phrases are getting way old.

This is taken from the Detroit News on Thursday:
Pinch-hitting for radio: With Dan Dickerson missing Thursday's doubleheader due to a family obligation, Double-A Erie broadcaster Greg Gania and former Tigers pitcher Doug Fister stepped in to do the games over the radio.
Fister enjoyed a 10-year MLB career and spent two seasons in Detroit from 2012-13. The righty threw a total of 370⅓ innings in his 59 games as a Tiger, finishing with 296 strikeouts and a 3.57 ERA.
BTW, Gania has filled in at other times over the years.

It kept my attention, because I am "full up" with Dan (Dr.) Dickerson's patter patterns after 20+ years. Gania overstated some aspects of the contest as they transpired, but for an emergent situation, I stuck with them and found it enjoyable.
One thing, with the announced attendance of 7,282 in Oakland, it had the soundscape of a minor league game. I could distinctly hear one guy leather-lunging Robbie Grossman throughout an at-bat down the stretch in the opener, who probably dipped his nose into his beer after Grossman grounded out to first to end the seventh.

Completely nauseous at the sound of his voice and his stupid over used catch phrases….

I finally gave up on Dickerson this year. I honestly think that he has some kind of hyperactivity disorder. The machine gun delivery, the constant yelling—it's too much. When you see him on TV, his eyes bug out and he's got that exaggerated grin. This year I've been able to listen to a lot of other announcers through Sirius XM and the YouTube MLB channel summaries, and nobody is as manic as Dickerson (although one or two come close).
Oakland radio broadcasts are always unique because of how distinctly the crowd noises are picked up in the radio booth. With the low attendance, those loud fans stand out even more.

Speaking of Oakland, as bad as the team is, I do enjoy their radio play by play. They're available for free on iHeart Radio via A's cast. Their announcers Ken Korak and Vince Catronio seem to make the best of a bad situation. Appologies if I misspelled their last names.

Maybe it's time for a change all the way around. We're still carrying around that 2006 mentality almost 20 years later. I think it may be time to start fresh. This includes PBP and color.
