This is about the only station I listen to anymore. Basically the same music CKLW played in the 60s. Better than any junk played nowadays. Does anyone even know about this station?

Yes. It's my first preset on the car radio, followed by WNZK (for its Motown-and-a-cup-of-Joe show). I keep a button for WSM (Though it doesn't work in the summer), WWJ (especially for news at 7:00 AM), and WLEC when I'm in the home stretch.

The only FM station I often listen to is WUOM.

What's interesting is that it seems the FM band is greedy in the Detroit area, but is more listenable in areas far from cities with more than 500k population.

Lucky bastards. I'm shocked if I get a faint signal during the day; forget it at night.

Among many reasons I like to listen to CKWW is that it is an AM station and many of the recordings were meant to be heard on AM. I enjoy the references to the Top 40 era CKLW and their song selections played can be surprising for an "oldies" format as one can hear relative rarities like Bobby Jameson's "I'm So Lonely" and The Underdog's rendition of "Love's Gone Bad." [I've written this on other sites before (Facebook, etc), so my comments may look familiar to some.]

You should listen to Big8Radio.com . Charlie O'Brian programs it and it sounds great!

In fact, WLEC in Sandusky, OH (1450) uses a bumper: "If you listened to the Big 8, We're your station!"

That's interesting. They've been on the air with the same call since first light in April, 1964.

CKWW's daytime signal isn't as good as it once was in Northern Ohio, so now I don't punch it up until I cross the border into Michigan. CFCO still throws a good daytime signal. 560 Monroe, I only get HD for about 3 miles, it is crap. Surprised by 1200KHz this Sunday driving thru Dearborn, the HD locked and the music was in stereo on the AM HD- quite shrill, and still, doesn't sound as good as ole analog CQUAM AM stereo when used on CKLW and WJR.
Is CKWW running on lower power than usual, or is it just the garbage from 560 spewing onto 580 making it so difficult in Ohio? Still can't understand why the ole CKLW-FM 93.9 doesn't simulcast CKWW?

I am 38, so the only stations I followed on AM radio were 760, 800, 950, 1130, and 1270. Oh, and 1030 back in my fundy days.

I've streamed CKWW regularly (including today), since I'm usually out of range. Charlie, Bill Gable, Super Max Kinkel, Scott Miller, Ted Richards, Pat Holiday, and Johnny Williams are the first air names that come to mind, and the music really fits the Big 8 sound well. Had the opportunity to meet Max, Scott, Ted and Johnny at one time or another years ago.

After a quick check, O' Brien is listed as a photo artist in Windsor, Max has had his own show online at SuperMaxRadio.com, Miller is with Townsquare in Bangor, Maine, Richards retired to North Carolina, Holiday is listed with a radio consulting business, and Gable and Williams passed away in 2018 and 2020, respectively. I'd heard Gable some on Zoomer Radio (CFZM, 740 AM out of Toronto, itself a great listen and more variety than you find most anywhere on radio) before he retired in 2014.

"...and the hits just keep on comin'!"

His screen name is a misnomer, obviously.
