Tuned in for the first time in months, and WCAR is now Fox Sports Radio. I guess that’s an upgrade from SBNation or whatever they were. Maybe they added a listener or two.

Wow, that's interesting. I may actually program that on my truck.

All the board members are way smarter about this stuff than me... but I searched for "Detroit 1090 am" and it looks like this at one point (recently) was Catholic radio? I assume run by the Catholic nuns/school in Livonia? Did they stop broadcasting?

I thought it was 990?

Doesn't matter. Still can't pick it up. Wasn't that on WDFN before the flip?

Yes. Apparently iHeart didn’t want it on an HD channel.

It appears to be Fox Sports in the Morning and the rebranded Sports Map radio (used to be SBNation) at night. Although that has fluctuated a few times.

Likely not, 1090 is a waste of good electricity. Besides, no one cared about it on WDFN either. If they really wanted to be bold, Sima could of given "The Switch" another try.

" Kickin live on the A-mmmm Peeps, this be teh nah tee da switch! we smackin da heet for sheesy!"

Sima didn’t choose The Switch format, he leased the station out to them. It raised virtually nothing (I remember hearing a single ad from a Garden City business) so it failed after one month. I’d like to know what that cost.

The night signal is spotty even in parts of Canton due to the extreme null. Days aren’t an issue down here.

WCAR, previously WIID, WTAK, and originally WERB, WBRB's sister station, was a cash machine when Walter Wolpin owned it. WTAK was metro Detroit's first all talk station, and made Lou Gordon famous. The day and night patterns on this facility are very different, and the station actually increases power at night, which is unusual. At night, it goes north, I assume to protect co-channel KAAY Little Rock. And once again, I've dated myself, with all of this ancient history.

Should they apply for a broader signal reach? The current one is a joke.

WBAL is also a factor. I’ve picked that up instead, even less than ten miles from the tower. They are directional too, just like KAAY. The station in Seattle is likely a non factor.

I don’t think they can power up or loosen one of the lobes. They’re stuck.

Quite a distance from WBAL however if you are suggesting a possible nighttime conflict note how the WCAR signal at night is more to the north. Let's get Metal in here and amplify this discussion so that WCAR can be transformed to be heard outside of their studios.

I picked it up today! I was driving north on 275 just north of Newport and I got it loud and clear!
