They already show the Oakland U games why not??? Some local sports is better than some of the crap they have on anyway.

A Tigers or Wings game of the week on free tv would also be welcome.

Anything that increases the trend to more OTA programming is a good thing!

When are the contracts up for the major sports teams? I agree- it would be terrific if 20 steps up and grabs even a handful of games. Soccer will only draw about twelve viewers, but at least it’s local. I am guessing they are paying for airtime?

Only if there was a state-wide network of channels.

They could syndicate the games like 50 did years ago. I’m sure WXSP, 46 in Flint, and one of the Lansing subchannels would go for it, possibly throw in a Toledo subchannel. Not sure what stations are up north these days.

Only way that happens is if the teams produce the game broadcast, sell the adds and then buy the time on 20. That would depend on how hardball Sinclair tries to negotiate with the teams. Sinclair has told the people at FSD any changes will come at the end of baseball season this year. 20 and Scripps have no infrastructure in place to try and produce a game broadcast, the investment in doing so would be cost prohibitive.

Someone said WXSP since Sinclair owns FSD and the rights to Tigers, Redwings & Pistons those games on the weekends would only go on CW7 which Sinclair owns. So no rebrand of Fox Sports RSN's until the end of baseball season I thought rebrand would happen before the start of baseball season?

DCFC soccer is averaging close to 8k at their home games in Hamtramck - easily breaking attendance at Comerica on a weeknight. Team is the fastest growing sports organization in the country right now and going professional this year. Should be fun to see quality sports on TV again in Detroit.

It was nice to see the Wings on the NBC Game of the Week.First Wings telecast Ive saw in 2 yrs. Which is sad for those of us that don't have or cant get FSD.

I may be wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if the team was paying for the airtime. I have the impression they might have money to burn.

If memory serves, I think that the Tigers and Red Wings signed a 9 year extension with FSD around 2016, so it's going to be a while.

If the Illitch"s were smart they would let Fox2 simulcast a game like opening day with FSD on one of their subchannels and let more viewers see the product on ice and field. At least once a month would be nice.Cant see them doing any more than that.Even if its one of the crappy teams in the league.

Maybe the Illitch's don't realize a lot of cord cutting has been going on since 2016.

The trend for teams is going towards owning their own cable network. If Ilitch’s teams weren’t complete garbage right now, I could see them trying this in the future.

How many teams have any games over the air, other than a national broadcast or perhaps opening day? The Cubs don’t anymore. Maybe the New York teams still do.
