That's too bad. Should have been Neil Young.
You have to use the good brand of duct tape. The cheap stuff, they can work it loose with their tongue.

Why Niel Young, He’s a great talent. Probably equivalent to Cohen.

What do you have against Young ?
Music is my life.

Nothing against him, personally. But, if someone has to die, let it be one of them.stopnswop2 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 30, 2019 10:43 amWhat do you have against Young ?

I don’t know if these guys are considered CanCon (I’m guessing they’re exactly that though), but in the last few years I’ve become a big fan of Blue Rodeo. I always heard about them on CBC and such, but I’ve come to see them as a Canadian version of the Eagles in the late 80s until now.
I can’t think of an artist I flat out don’t like. Some I appreciate a lot more than others, but very few that I just reject the whole catalogue of.

I know they’re all Toronto guys. If you guys don’t mind, I was hoping you could explain the term to me since I’m not sure I understand it properly. I actually was thinking more along the lines of what CanCon really means. I’m 41 so I don’t remember the glory days of CKLW when they would play a song not because Rosalie thought it was a hit, but because they had to fill the quota. Do we consider all Canadian artists CanCon, or just the ones who are only big in Canada? For example, Celine Dion or Bryan Adams wouldn’t be considered CanCon, but Chilliwack is. I think I’ve always interpreted it as a more negative connotation.

Bad CanCon:
Stompin Tom Connors
Only Stompin Tom could rhyme INCO, Stinko and Bingo all in the same song.

You have to WANT to like Stompin’ Tom. He is not something I can handle in large doses.
Re: CanCon You Like, CanCon You Don't Like
Stompin Tom's songs were of the working class in small towns across Canada. My town, London ON, is so boring and so hopelessly middle class, we never even earned an honourable mention in any of his songs.

Re: CanCon You Like, CanCon You Don't Like
I’m disappointed that I grew up in Detroit, listened to Windsor radio and watched channel 9 all the time, and never really heard of most of these bands until a couple of years ago. Listening to Boom 97.3 from Toronto introduced me to a lot of bands I never heard of.
And I hope you’re happy, stopnswop2, I’ve been listening to Chilliwack all morning. It sounds like an 80s time capsule!
