A letter drafted in October of 2016 has an interesting third paragraph:
http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/c ... r_id=68295
"BBC's request is granted. Accordingly, Special Temporary Authority is granted to permit Station WPON(AM) to remain silent not to exceed 180 days from the date of this letter. Notwithstanding the grant of this Special Temporary Authority, the broadcast license for Station WPON(AM) will automatically expire as a matter of law if broadcast operations do not resume by 12:01 a.m., September 14, 2017."

Are we taking wagers? Either Sima tries to file an extension of the STA, or he lets the license expire. This is never going to be built.

One way or another, he'll have to turn it on by then or the Commission will put their foot down. I understand they have been more strict about these remain silent STAs and just firing up a temporary rig into a wire for a few days doesn't count as resuming service.

My guess is that Sima will turn the license in to Uncle Charlie

If i had a choice of WPON or WCXI from that site, i'd take WCXI. Much more coverage.

New Entry Dated - October 10, 2018
https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.ex ... _num=22045
THIS AMENDMENT IS BEING FILED IN RESPONSE TO A DEFICIENCY LETTER FROM THE FCC. THE REVITALIZATION OF THE AM RADIO SERVICE RULES CHANGE OF JANUARY 19,2016 REDUCED THE RMS LEVEL OF AN AUTHORIZATION AND REMOVED THE NIGHTTIME COMMUNITY COVERAGE REQUIREMENT FOR EXISTING AM STATIONS. THIS AMENDMENT THEREFORE INCREASES THE NIGHTTIME POWER AND CHANGES THE STATION CLASS TO B.

I see seven towers surrounding a transmitter building. Looks like they finally managed to get some land and get some towers up!

Time for this jerk to turn in the license for at least WPON and just keep WCXI, time to hang it up.

I would want to see nondirectional proofs on WPON before I would build out the WCXI "upgrade".

They could use whatever towers they can and a few new ones to build an array that would send the WCXI signal North at Night and send some East like the WYLL pattern, since under proposed rules, existing stations won't have as strict of a NIF requirement for Minor changes for an existing COL, in this case Fenton. Assuming that the site area measured conductivity on the WPON proofs is "halfway" decent like the WDEO and WUFL proof radials show, which is 4 mS/m. From the site, it is 23 miles straight North to the SE corner of Grand Blanc Township (Vassar Rd. and Ray Rd. section line ROW), but still quite a hike with ~10 kW and a ~6 tower dogleg something like WYLL's Lockport Night site.
WPON WCXI Tower Diagrams. I would have put the WPON Night Array along the West Side of the WPON Daytime Parallelogram, to leave room for another row for a WCXI Nighttime Array ~180 degrees away like the WYLL array. But they hadn't proposed the rule for NIF over COL then.
