Re: Ron Cameron
I am sure if Ray Scott is a guest the JFK story will be discussed
Re: Ron Cameron
It’s a good thing we haven’t started the Ron Cameron drinking game
Re: Ron Cameron
Dick Tracewski to his wife: "Ron's calling again, honey. We have to move."
Re: Ron Cameron
Luke, I hope you observed Ron’s superb interviewing ability. It’ll serve you well in your budding career.
Re: Ron Cameron
As is his wont (to no doubt showcase his sports wizardry), Ron patted himself on the back last night for "correctly" picking the Celtics to come out of the East. I wasn't convinced that he didn't pick the Heat, principally because of our "no-homer" hero's penchant for actively cheerleading for teams with whom he purports to have some connection, e.g. the Gabe Kapler-led Giants & the Mets when managed by Terry Collins. Despite the fact that he's acknowledged never meeting any number of Detroit sports mainstays (& even longtime guests, including last night's Charlie Maxwell), Ron often tells the story of approaching a deeply appreciative Heat coach Erik Spoelstra to tell him he knew his late grandfather, Warren Spoelstra, the News's longtime Tigers beat writer. So I checked the podcast for last week's "Fourth of July" spectacular &, sure enough, at the 3:58 mark of the first hour, Ron said, "I have the Heat winning that [deciding] game" later that evening.
No wonder Ron no longer promotes his ("24/7") podcast. He doesn't want his own words fact-checked.

Re: Ron Cameron
I love how Ron keeps touting former Tiger Mgr. Jim Leyland as an upcoming guest even though by Ron's own account "I have to call him and have him come on the show". What if Jim goes Phil Regan on him?? He's been touting Leyland as a shoo in guest for months now. This guy is so full of crap. Has Ron ever confirmed the wherabouts of The Vulture?
Re: Ron Cameron
I have it on unimpeachable authority that Ron cannot even bring himself to publicly talk about Phil Regan anymore, so consumed with worry is he about Phil’s well-being.
Re: Ron Cameron
I thought Charlie Maxwell sounded great, especially at age 95. Ron said Paw Paw has been on his show 10 or 12 times. Charlie is playing with fire guesting on Sports Talk with The Grim Reaper. That bullet is gonna chamber eventually.
Re: Ron Cameron
A Cameron correction/ nitpick, in Cameron fashion: Ron said Maxwell’s first four HR were against HOF pitchers. Close but no cigar. First 3 were, but not fourth, unless Virgil Trucks has been added to HOF without me noticing.
Channeling my inner Cowboy:
Interesting bit if trivia: Charlie Maxwell, then with the White Sox, was struck out as a pinch hitter for the final out in Denny McLain’s complete game major league debut on Saturday 9-21-63. In this game Denny, facing his hometown team who he signed with and spent one season in their farm system before being claimed off waivers by Detroit on 4-8-63, walked lead off hitter Mike Hershberger then proceeded to immediately pick him off. In the third inning Denny gave up his first hit as Don Buford singled. McLain proceeded immediately pick him off. In the bottom of the third, Dick McAuliffe was picked off of third base by Chisox pitcher Fritz Ackley. (Wow three pick offs in the first three innings of the game. It’s rare to see one in this day and age). In the top of the fifth the Sox get three hits but only score one run off a Buford triple. In the bottom of the inning, In his second career at bat of an eventual 709 plate appearances, Dennis McLain hits his only Home Run to tie the score at 1-1. The next batter Billy Bruton makes it back to back. Tigers lead 2-1. Tigers add a run in sixth on Bubba Phillips Sac Fly to make it 3-1. In the top of the eighth a McLain error leads to two unearned runs to tie it at 3-3. In the bottom of the frame, Stormin’ Norman Cash homers off reliever Jim Brosnan, to put Tig’s up 4-3. In the top of the ninth Denny faces three pinch hitters. Deacon Jones fly out, Pete Ward stands there like the house by the side of the road for out two, and then Charlie Maxwell whiffs to complete the 4-3 Tiger victory in front of a crowd of 4,291
That was Maxwells final appearance against the Tigers. He would only play in two more games, both in 1964. His final mlb appearance was on April 26, 1964 vs. Boston. (Same day was the debut of Sonny Seibert). Charlie was released by the White Sox on May 15, 1964.

Re: Ron Cameron
I agree, Charlie Maxwell sounded great on the show Sunday! He had enough to say and to keep the conversation moving, preventing Ron from running roughshod over interviewees with the same old tales of the many teams Ron’s “owned”, who’s dead/dying/or has dementia, his many male roommates or vacationing with Gabe Kapler.
On a related note: Thanks to Mr. Positive for urging the “powers that be” to get the podcasts up in a timely manner, for those of us that don’t catch SportsTalk on Sunday nights!

300,000 views, and (like Sport Fans' Journal) still going strong.
