I am inclined to write one myself-how great would a letter of the week segment be, brought to you by the JumbotronMomo wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 1:33 pm Re: this new letter-writing campaign, I'm imagining the WDTK receptionist's first reaction upon receiving a letter addressed there to Ron Cameron: "Who's Ron Cameron?!"
But once this campaign picks up steam - requiring WDTK to beef up their mailroom - this is what I'm next imagining:

And then Ron will have his own version of "Viewer Mail" as a regular feature of his future show:

Those are funny, especially the 1947 clip.Momo wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 1:33 pm Re: this new letter-writing campaign, I'm imagining the WDTK receptionist's first reaction upon receiving a letter addressed there to Ron Cameron: "Who's Ron Cameron?!"

I go back a long way with David Letterman, to when he was doing weekend weather on an Indianapolis TV station in the 1970s. He also did satirical pieces on the local rock radio station, which helped inspire my humble attempts at the same thing with R Sizzle.
Re: Ron Cameron
Yesterday’s shows are up for listening. Turn around times improving!
Re: Ron Cameron
Is Martin still at WPON? He has done DJ work, and it’s the same quality as his producing.
Re: Ron Cameron
Just as Ron encourages listeners patronizing a sponsor to inform the business that they heard of them on Sports Talk, we need to have new listeners from the Buzzboard let Ron know - as did Steve from Farmington Hills - that they heard of Ron from the Buzzboard. And, as Ron insists on knowing the hometowns of callers/emailers, perhaps any & all future letters to Ron should be "from the Buzzboard."
Re: Ron Cameron
Like others, I'm wondering how Ron will fill up an hour of conversation with soccer promoter Roger Faulkner next Sunday. After scanning the Internet to get some ideas, it probably won't be hard to do that.
- According to the Detroit Free Press archives on Newspapers.com, Ron has interviewed Roger at least 3 times. On WXYZ radio on 2/12/80, and on the Sports View Today TV show (probably with Bob Page) in June 1986 and May 1987. Some deep memories of those interviews will probably be triggered in Ron, which would then lead to his usual semi-accurate trips down Memory Lane.
- If the conversation comes anywhere near the risks of sports team ownership, we will probably get an earful about Ron's several aborted attempts in that direction.
- The World Cup visited Detroit in the summer of 1994, at a time when Ron was bouncing back and forth between Detroit and other parts of the country in his eternal search for the perfect business opportunity. It's very easy to imagine Ron saying, "I wasn't in Detroit at the time of the World Cup, I was in...," followed by another earful about Ron's business ventures at that time.
- Roger has served on the board of the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, and was chairman for awhile. Ron's comments about the hall could probably fill most of the hour.

His LinkedIn page says that he stopped working for WPON's parent company in January 2022. This page gives the impression that he is now working full-time as the Social Media Manager for Martin's Social Media Tweak Up.

I always enjoyed his music selections on WPON. I tried to imagine that his lead-in song to Ron's show was some kind of humorous comment about the show.
Re: Ron Cameron
Thanks, that’s given me some food for thought in penning my letter to Ron. I had been only thinking of asking Roger about his greatest thrill in soccer.Bobbert wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 10:27 am Like others, I'm wondering how Ron will fill up an hour of conversation with soccer promoter Roger Faulkner next Sunday. While researching the above, I came upon this great quote from the Free Press's Steve Crowe (9/30/94):Momo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 10:45 amThanks, that’s given me some food for thought in penning my letter to Ron. "Cameron is often obnoxious and a lot of other things one seldom seeks in companions. But he is also entertaining, and astute in a slovenly sort of way, with a good grasp of area sports history."
Re: Ron Cameron
Perhaps WPON firing Martin is the best thing to ever happen to him.It was obvious that he did not have the talent to make it in the business.,If he corrects his awful, work ethic perhaps he can find and keep gainful employment in another field.Bobbert wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 10:41 amHis LinkedIn page says that he stopped working for WPON's parent company in January 2022. Re: Ron Cameron
Man, the last half hour of the show on Sunday was a slog, Ron sounded disinterested and/or ready for the hotel bed. Snooze fest.
Re: Ron Cameron
And that was how he was described when he was still within shouting distance of his halcyon days in this market. Add almost 30 years of being less than an afterthought - along with the loss of Cory Lidle - & you know that he's only gone downhill since then.Bobbert wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 11:18 am While researching the above, I came upon this great quote from the Free Press's Steve Crowe (9/30/94):

Yeah pretty much the last 20 minutes or so was a future guest list, repeated over and over. Not sure if any of these future guests know that they may be on

I am glad I checked out early. That 8-9 hour is typically a waste of everyone's time.radiofan1974 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 4:49 pmYeah pretty much the last 20 minutes or so was a future guest list, repeated over and over. Not sure if any of these future guests know that they may be on![]()
You can count on Ron devoting some of his "interview" time with Roger Faulkner complaining about Bob Page, the ol' alligator arms, teeny bopper nonsense. I don't see Ron's audience being all excited for this but Roger goes back to Ron's heyday so it should be a scintillating hour
