You're being hyperbolic. I don't obsess over CD quality audio over the radio, and I don't encounter "fade in and fade out with weird distortion", but I have good equipment. If this AM station has an entertaining service, I will listen.

You can get a ~$29 radio that will autofill the carrier fades and give 6-8 kHz audio response for AM.
