Find Terri DeBoer's Congressional GOP primary announcement on March 5 2026 at minimum odd and at most disingenuous after her heartfelt farewell from FOX17 talking about the death of her mother, grandchildren in 3 states and so on and so on and so on that was published on MLive on Feb 19 and updated 2/20/26.

There is a lot of ground work that needs to be done prior to an announcement one is running for Congress including meetings with major donors, party officials, preparing announcements to multiple media outlets and at least an overview of reasons why you are running to oppose the incumbent regardless of party affiliation. Yet just 15 days after "retiring" from reporting weather the people running Terri DeBoer's brand new campaign get her announcement covered by all the MLive outlets, DetNews, Freep, TV8/41, Fox17, WWMT and launches a website.

"“There will be a lot to get done when I am in Congress, but off the bat I will prioritize policies that lower the cost of living for West Michiganders, protect the vulnerable among us, and keep our communities safe,” DeBoer’s campaign website says."

That's a 180 from what she said about taking the to visit the grandkids 15 days ago.

Well... she DID have a lot of time on her hands, since she couldn't be bothered to be in the studio, instead, she phoned it in from home. Was she meeting with donors during her down time? hmmm... Enquiring minds want to know.

It's not as though she gave us any real insight into the weather, just reading scripts and speaking to weather maps she had no previous knowledge about prior to being on air.

I didn't have that on my BINGO Card. Terri has always been conservative, made a joke about Al Gore when the 2000 election was being contested and I think Wood TV management had a talk with Terri about, I don't know if that is true or not or was just a rumor. I wonder if Terri will win the primary on the GOP side I wish the primaries were sooner than in Aug.

I agree that she's being propped up financially by somebody. My guess would be Terri Lyn Land and her hubbie, but I wouldn't rule out the DeVos family, either.

Pretty sure Hillary Scholten had zero legislative experience prior to running for the seat. working in a law office was the closest thing she had to experience

I'm glad to see Terri got out of WXMI. She likely used the "spend time with family" as a cover story over the truth of "Scripps is running this station into the ground" . Plus, Congress is only in session about 150 days a year (usually 3 days a week Tue-Thu) so there's still plenty of time to see far away relatives for a few days.
