Re: First significant winter storm of the year appears on tap for SE Michigan
I am shaving an inch off my 5 to 8 predicted range from this morning. I now think many areas will see 4 to 7 for the weekend as a whole. Sanilac County and eastern St. Clair county are most likely to achieve 7 inches of total snowfall, and even that is far from a given.
Areas west of US 23 will probably see 1 to 3 inches from phase II of the system, resulting in event totals of only 2 to 4 inches.
Phase II looks to be a bigger snow event for southern Ontario and western New York than here.

We got 4 inches already on the ground here. Channel 7 is now saying 5-7 inches. This means that the Weather Channel actually nailed it for both storms combined. And yes, they gave the full expected snowfall across the 3 days.

I'm okay with this, being about four miles west of 23 lolMWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 6:31 pm

That said, we're still gonna have that nose-hair-freezing cold the beginning of the week.

You already had snow on the ground from the system that passed through mid week, prior to this storm system. Warren received about 2 inches from Friday night through daytime yesterday. About an inch more fell last night (at the most). You'll see another 2 to 4 inches today probably. That means storm total will be near 6 or 7 inches, which is below the lowest point of TWC's ridiculous forecast. (Michigan Storm Chasers was off by a mile on this system, too, with their Friday forecast for this weekend's system being absurdly inaccurate for much of outstate Michigan.)MotorCityRadioFreak wrote: ↑Sat Feb 15, 2025 8:47 pm We got 4 inches already on the ground here. The moderate intensity snowfall will be ending by 9 AM for areas along and west of US 23, probably by 11 AM for areas near Telegraph Rd, and probably by Noon for areas near Van Dyke.
Very heavy snow is currently falling along the 275 corridor, but that band should only reside over any given area for 30 minutes. In that time, it could easily drop 1 to 1.5 inches. Behind that band, only very light snow showers appear on radar at this time.

The original winter storm warning (now cancelled for a mere advisory) ran all the way till 7pm so does that mean the snow is ending sooner than anticipated yesterday?MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Sun Feb 16, 2025 8:06 amYou already had snow on the ground from the system that passed through mid week, prior to this storm system. Re: First significant winter storm of the year appears on tap for SE Michigan
We should only see light snow showers and flurries this afternoon.
There is lake enhancement going on with the activity currently shown on radar over west central lower Michigan. That activity will weaken by the time it travels this way.
The heaviest activity is on top of me right now. The flakes are big (the size of quarters) and coming down at a brisk pace. This is the same band that was over I-275 at time of my prior post. This heavy snow band is only about 15 miles wide and is moving eastward at about 30 miles per hour.
Eastward momentum could slow - and redevelopment could occur - as this band moves into Macomb County, where a more favorable environment for snowfall exists.
I think primary roads should be in good shape in most areas by mid afternoon.

Re: First significant winter storm of the year appears on tap for SE Michigan
Storm total reports as of 8a this morning since 8p Friday evening:
3.0 inches Grosse Pointe Farms (another inch of snow likely fell afterward)
3.9 inches 5 mi. east of Chelsea
6.1 inches Richmond (another inch of snow likely fell afterward)
Here are a couple totals from 10p Friday evening thru 10a this morning:
Berkley 3.5 inches
Macomb Twp 4.0 inches.
Lake Orion 6.4 inches.
It looks like most of the metro will wind up with storm totals in the 3 to 6 range, so even my forecast (which was conservative compared to many) is going to prove to be a bit too high.

For as much as this has been hyped, we didn't get nearly what was predicted. We even had drizzle yesterday down by me which kept totals down further.

Yup. Had some freezing drizzle and ice droplets at times here. The snow that did fall was wet, as I expected.

I think Detroit Metro is up to about two feet on the season. Ballpark guess. I'll look up the official figure later today.
Gaylord has received a staggering 171 inches so far this season!
