At Motel 6 one can rent a room by the hour. Motel 6 usually has lots of vacant rooms. I read somewhere that they always leave a couple of rooms unlocked so the junkies can get in without breaking the lock.

I typically make it a rule to never stay at a hotel where I can park my car right outside my hotel room door.

An airport was planned to be constructed near 14 Mile and Dequindre back in the 60s. Obviously it never happened.

I've flown on Spirit and stayed at Motel 6 before. I haven't been in a hotel since 2019. I just fly Spirit to Florida and crash in my parents guest room.

Perfect. That's all I need. The radios are useless. I'd like to know which hotel chain that is.

Hilton… Ritz Carlton… Sheraton… Marriott… middle class joints.

You can strike Hilton from that list. The guy told me that under orders from corporate headquarters they had removed every clock from their rooms. Some focus group had told them that clocks make the rooms look too old fashioned and out of date.

Seemed like he was reciting from a script. Must be a lot of guests asking about it

Well. Fine then.

I hear the always classy Howard Johnson has clocks in his rooms.

So, either the guy lied to me, or they caved to complaints from the guests and rescinded their anti-clocks policy. Maybe too many of the guests were sneaking their own clocks into their rooms.

I'm surprised you didn't demand your money back when you found the room had a clock in it.

I stayed at Howard Johnson once and only once. I was in Toronto on business when there was some major event going on in the city. I think I got the last room in town.

I don't reall if the room had a clock. If it had one it would have been on the floor. The only furniture in the room was a sagging bed and a TV. No desk. No chair. No bedside stand. no lamps The only light was from a fixture on the ceiling. The only electrical outlet in the room was down behind the TV. If a person had wanted to use a hair dryer or electric shaver they'd have had to kneel on the floor in front of the TV.

Going down on the elevator the next moring, I mentioned to another guy the poor codition of the place. He said that in the hallway on his floor there was still a chalk outline of a body.

Hilton has 24 brands, some still have clocks. The photo that was displayed is not a hiltol branded hotel...

This is exactly what happened. I travel a ton for work (and have for the past 15 years) and 95% of the time I'm at a Hilton property. Not once have I been in a room without a clock.

I’m guessing he thought TT was strange for asking about it and yanked his legs out from under him.

We were at a Hampton Inn and the guy said the rule came down from Hilton. I could understand they could lower the room rate by not installing clocks in the rooms. But the rooms already had clocks and they probably had to pay someone to take them away.

The guy was polite and offered me a wake up call. I told him I don't need a wake up call

We still like Hampton Inn. Clean, up to date rooms maybe a little bit too up to date and a good breakfast. I just take my own clock with me and sneak it into the room when no one is watching.

I'd bet that probably 80% of the Hilton properties are franchisee-owned... the guy running the hotel you stayed at probably decided he could save a few bucks by not updating the clocks in the rooms and the guy behind the desk told you it was a corporate decree instead of selling his boss out as a cheap fuck.

Why the fuck would I demand my money back?? I'm not the one being a bitch about the existence of a clock in a hotel room. I'm not scared of technology and have my iPhone with me at all times, so I don't even notice if there's a clock or not in ANY room I'm in...
