The ones that tell me to go screaming in the night. No, seriously I could of swore I read that on here, going through some old posts.
Re: Upcoming changes to The Toledo radio dial?
I do believe that Jimmy Swaggert had his namesake AM station WJYM / 730AM on the selling block and that's why they added the FM translator on 106.9 and actually trimmed some of the giant overgrowth at the studio so it looks like some one has been there once in the past 10 years.
Re: Upcoming changes to The Toledo radio dial?
The only way I could see a commercial broadcaster wanting that signal, is for 106.9fm, which sounds excellent. 730am's signal pattern is a bit odd.
I can't see WJYM Having many listeners, as you don't have a large percent of the population that is Pentecostal.

And WJYM blew it by not sticking their towers in Luna Pier, Michigan with the SW teardrop pattern going over the Toledo Metro, instead of Wood County, but truly doubt they would spend any money to move anything, nor would a buyer.
Re: Upcoming changes to The Toledo radio dial?
For an AM Station at this point? no. Hypothetically I could see a commercial broadcaster purchase the station for 106.9 and then spin 730 off to a non-commercial broadcaster.

It seems like most of SonLife Radio's listeners are in the south when they mention who's donated for the evening.Riff Raff wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 12:29 pm The only way I could see a commercial broadcaster wanting that signal, is for 106.9fm, which sounds excellent. 730am's signal pattern is a bit odd.

Right, so selling seems to make sense. NW Ohio is mostly Catholic and Baptist I find.radioandtventhusiast wrote: ↑Fri Nov 04, 2022 6:55 pmIt seems like most of SonLife Radio's listeners are in the south when they mention who's donated for the evening.Riff Raff wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 12:29 pm The only way I could see a commercial broadcaster wanting that signal, is for 106.9fm, which sounds excellent. 730am's signal pattern is a bit odd.

1520 was running for a few days, then off the air the past few days. Gotta get their days in for the FCC yearly activity??

I have been told it's listed with a broker. Not sure which one. The "odd" pattern that points mostly south from Lime City, was designed to maximize power over the agricultural areas. The then WMGS played twangy country music with live DJs, and provided the region with a lot of AG information, and AG clients. It was basically a Farm station. The signal points south, away from the now long gone CHYR 730 Leamington, Ontario. There are a couple sharp nulls in the pattern over "Toiletto" but generally, it covers most of it. I believe Lime City is as far north as they could go with it. Original daytime only site was somewhere near U.S. 6 and I-75 south of BG. During the day, WJYM is loud and clear all the way to Springfield. At night, along I-75, it disappears around mile marker 94, near Sidney.
Coincidentally, WAWR, later WKIQ, now WRQN 93.5, was on Gypsy Lane, in the field west of I-75. The old tower anchors are probably still in the field. Studios were at 143 E. Wooster. In the early '80's, WRQN was in serious financial trouble, and had to broadcast from a trailer at the transmitter site on Gypsy Lane. I guess I have to give them credit for keeping WRQN on the air through those rough times.
That's enough old man stories for now.

The stories are interesting. Wikipedia says Swaggert has owned the station since 1975-76. So wondering if it was one of his first stations.Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 10:39 amFor my pal "Brian 1980"Riff Raff wrote: ↑Mon Oct 31, 2022 1:12 pmThe ones that tell me to go screaming in the night. Interviewed at JYM's studio/Xmitter back in early 80's. Fully staffed at that time and a dozen people all looking to get a radio gig (again) - actually had an ad in the Toledo Blade. No "booger" over the air.
Re: Upcoming changes to The Toledo radio dial?
There are still issues with the Leamington allotments 710/730. Also a limit to 760. And of course WVFN. The WBGS...WJYM DA made WVIC...WVFN possible.Riff Raff wrote: ↑Wed Nov 02, 2022 12:29 pm The only way I could see a commercial broadcaster wanting that signal, is for 106.9fm, which sounds excellent. 730am's signal pattern is a bit odd.

Re: Upcoming changes to The Toledo radio dial?
The inner contours are difficult to see, but 730 would not be able to overlap their 25 mV/m with the 25 mV/m contour of WJR 760. That comes down pretty far into Monroe County, but I don't have a way of plotting it out more clearly and posting it. Using M-3 and 8 mS/m, the 25 mV/m contour goes out a little more than 30 miles. If WJYM were 250 watts nondirectional with a 1/4 wave antenna, the 25 mV/m would go out about 3 1/2 miles.
