The Tigers have won their first two spring training games.
They beat the Yankees 4-0 today in Tampa, and play Toronto tomorrow in Lakeland.
Rain was in the forecast in Florida for Monday.

The Yankees have lost ace pitcher Gerrit Cole for the season. It doesn't look like Kenta Maeda is going to make the Tigers' starting rotation. Harris was probably planning to trade Maeda at midseason for prospects; maybe he could do that right now with the Yankees. Maeda has had an inconsistent spring, but at times he has looked better than last year.

Wow, that 19 Ks in 12.2 innings really sticks out. However, so does the 8 ERs and 4 HRs.
Even bigger in my eyes, and something to which I never gave serious consideration, is having Javy Baez play 3B. Sure, why not? It allows Sweeney and McKinstry to both come north, maybe even Tork. Jace Jung is hitting only .160 this spring.

Jung should start in Toledo to work on defense and to an extent his bat.
I'd rather see Vierling hold down third in the interim than Baez. McKinstry is (or should be) only a utility guy who struggles when getting extended playing time.

So would I, but Vierling is nursing a strained rotator cuff and will miss the opening of the season. I would prefer a third-baseman who can throw.

The past few Spring Training games I've caught on the radio, Dan Dickerson has not been announcing. It always seems to be Bobby Scales and someone else.
Anyone know what happened to Dan? Or did I just catch the games where he takes the day off?

Vierling and Meadows will officially miss the first 10 days.
Hao-Yu Lee was sent to minor league camp. Defense looked good but the bat isn't major league ready yet.
This means it's likely a mix of Jung, McKinstry, and Baez at third. Maybe no hit Kreidler as well.

McKinstry shouldn’t even be at camp. Just my opinion.

McKinstry is the classic utility guy. He's better than Kreidler and since reassigned Andrew Navigato but not someone who should be starting more than once every 10 or 15 games.
