Are you aware that there is a group lobbying to limit the number of secular stations in the US? Since the FCC is focused on emerging media, it very well could gain traction.

There was a lot wrong with the "Michigan Radio" name. The name implies that WUOM and it's repeaters are a state public radio network. There are some of those: Minnesota Public Radio, Wisconsin Public Radio and several others around the country. But not in Michigan. And a couple of repeaters does not make a single station into a network.

I feel this was a very weird decision on the University's part to get rid of the name. That old logo they had was cool in my opinion. I understand that times have changed with how you get audio content, so I can understand their POV, but if I had no idea this was a radio station, I could think this could be a public transit system, a school district, or even a TV show of some kind. Michigan Public Media would've been a much better name. I don't have all that much to complain about as the programming and personalities are all the same.

The government needs to stop the federal tax payer dollars going to National Public Radio and PBS. There is no need for tax payers to pay for the garbage and propaganda that is on NPR and PBS. National Propaganda Radio and PBS is a waste of taxpayers money, defund NPR and PBS.

The CPB funds public radio stations. Those stations purchase programs from suppliers like NPR, Pacifica and AMP. There are many stations which receive funds and do not subscribe to these program services.

Public Television is slightly different.

If the 600+ stations from all voting districts in the country don't support the programs, they go away. This includes MAGA areas.

Basically, public radio (and TV) don't need government subsidies. Time was they did but they don't now. They get money from listeners and they get even more money from corporate underwriters. And they get money from what for all practical purposes are infomercials. In most markets, they have fancy quarters, the most up to date equipment, high salaries for management and often enough left over to launch for profit subsidiaries. Whatever your politics, whatever you think of their programming, they don't need government money.

Would you be so adamant about removing CPB funding from public radio and TV if you agreed with the viewpoints expressed? Sounds like this is just about politics for you and your desire to suppress any views other than your own.
