Maybe so, but you can't listen to radio on a phone.
Besides, I don't have a phone, but I have dozens of radios.
I have a watch. But at 3:47 AM in a dark room, it's difficult to read.

Tune In app, plus a lot of stations stream their live feed… That’s what I use instead of actual broadcasts 90% of the time.

Re: Hampton Inn
The last hotel room I stayed in did have a clock. Come nighttime, Its blue-green LED display shone with the light of a thousand suns, and I could not find a display dim or cut switch or control. I ended up simply putting one of those dozen extra throw pillows in front of it. I couldn't just unplug it, as the AC outlet was unreachable, somewhere behind the bed. Next morning I did find the control, on the underside of the clock, and the max dim setting was OK, especially if I turned the face away.
Last few times in a room with a (clock) radio, there was so much RF, birdies, bleeps and buzzes, I could barely listen to the only news station (AM, of course) poking above the noise. There was some local FM, but it was mostly bad rock, bad country, or sappy Christian. I had an AM/FM walkman type radio with me but it was as useless in there as the house unit.

On a side note… WHY do hotels include soooo many damn pillows on the bed? For fucks sake, I don’t need ten pillows to sleep… or to prop the hooker’s ass up when plowing her!

Online streaming is no more like radio than intravenous feeding is like fine dining.teetoppz28 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 6:51 pm

Agreed. My wife has that pillow thing. The beds in our house are stacked with pillows that have to be removed at night and put back in the morning.teetoppz28 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 7:18 pm

Re: Hampton Inn
A little off topic, but since TuneIn was mentioned…
I despise TuneIn. I used to use it the most for about 10 years, until almost every station began with an ad, then another ad, then another. Then last year, I think, the ads started to interrupt programming. It wasnt even a scheduled interruption, the ad just plays right over the content, without pause. Hear a song you like when an ad interrupts? It’s done by the time the ad is over.
I was willing to pay for TuneIn Pro or whatever the paid version is called, but all that does is remove banner ads. I had enough.
I use Online Radio Box, myTuner, and StreamS now. Even with their own limitations, they’re infinitely better than TuneIn.

I use TuneIn sparingly now… I download the station’s app and use that mainly.
I’d vote TuneIn over the iHeart app… that player is a shit show of ads!

I use a radio. A Sangean ATS 606 is my dedicated travel radio. At home it stays with the luggage. The only time it gets used is when we're at a hotel. It survived a fall from my second story balcony in Mexico.

Also, I don’t appreciate being called a radio…

Re: Hampton Inn
You should simply go on the radio stations website and stream the station.

Re: Hampton Inn
I already have a radio and it's free to use it. Why would I buy a phone and pay for a service plan?
Radio is cheap, it's portable and it doesn't require any special skills to operate.
Re: Hampton Inn
Several smartphones have FM tuners built in.
You don't even have to sign up for service either... Just buy a used phone and use it as a clock radio!!
