I heard both 88.7 and 93.9 today for the first time since the change. Not a country fan, but the audio quality on 88.7 is pretty good. Still lost their preset.

93.9 is hot garbage like I thought. I was surprised to heard commercials so soon- perhaps the former River advertisers? They played something like 30 commercials in a row.

CKWW hasn’t changed one iota. Same music, same liners.

No way. Of all the country stations in town, 99.5 is king. I’d rather have the dominant Subway in town than be the only Indian restaurant in the blue collar white suburb.

That may be true, but that's what I get for thinking outside the box. Hasn't YCD been slipping recently? Or have they made another recovery?

Okay, I'm gonna be honest...I hate country music post 1990 or so, and preferred the breeze and alternative (not what they are playing now), so I would shed no tears if 99.5 flipped.

What DOES suck, however, is people getting fired over format flips. If I knew they were keeping their paychecks, I'd feel much different.

99.5 WYCD has been slipping a bit, mostly due to listeners deciding to try out 93.1 Nash FM (99.5 was pulling in 8's for a while, now they're down to a 5, while Nash went from low 1's to a 3 or so...) but it's still a *very* successful country station, and clearly rules the roost in the area in regards to country music stations... So... no, I won't tear you a new asshole, as you feared... I just politely disagree, and think flipping yet another successful radio station to something unknown and untested and unsure might backfire spectacularly just as likely as it is to succeed (or at least match current rates of listening popularity)

Huh... I thought 93.1 was still a dumpster fire...

EDIT: 93.1 went from a 3.7 last month to a 2.6. Holy shit, I’m somewhat surprised it got that high. It hovered around the 2’s for a while...

Interested to see how 98.7 does once the dust settles... I can probably take a guess, unfortunately.

After thirty years as some form of Modern Rock, it looks like they’re finally throwing in the towel. This station was the soundtrack to my teen and college-aged years, but like most of the market, I think I’ve barely listened to it in the last five years.

Any guesses as to what’s next? Them being a Canadian station makes it hard to guess, as I’m not sure what format holes are in Windsor and any change to target Detroit again cannot run afoul of Cancon regulations.

I'm gonna set up the old Kenwood analog tuner tonight and check the signal strength of 88.7 out here. Sometimes it came in better than Detroit proper stations. There's a lot of rural out here, it would probably fare well in this area.

It just occurred to me...when 89x started up, weren't they playing what could have been considered "snowflake music" for the times? In 1990-91, it was all about the butt rock...Crue, Poison, Whitesnake...basically, the playlist for any mainstream FM rock station today. I found a commercial for 89x from 92 or so that touted Depeche Mode, the Cure, groups like that.

It wasn't until grunge and pop-punk that they really hit a groove as far as rock that could be considered alternative. In the early days, "Modern Rock" had a different meaning.

I could hear things changing in 97, 98 with all the rap rock, industrial metal and the "me, too" post grunge bands. I still listened, though.

So what is the difference between snowflake music then and snowflake music now? At least Depeche Mode was good lol

Edit: here is the commercial. It must be from 1993. Hard to believe Counting Crows was considered modern rock. You can't escape Mr. Jones on any library hits station.
