What kind of drugs are they on over at that thread?
To be fair, I guess I could ask what kind of drugs are we on on this thread.

A question for Dan in Northville, who wrote a few days ago: "...my first job was as an accountant for a CPA on the east side of Detroit." Was your boss' name "Frank?"

I don't see a press pass-free Ron pivoting so quickly. He's got a gold mine of attack lines, e.g., Scott Harris, Lance Parrish, Ron Colangelo, to go wobbly now. Apart from Rodriguez's undisputed artistry of late, I can see him giving more credit to the failings of the teams the Tigers have defeated.
Good points, especially with no access to caravans and out of state busses bringing people in as well

Interview with Jerry Green.

https://www.detroitmoviepalaces.com/ima ... yGreen.mp3
Ron was in his glory days, railing against Jack Morris's HOF candidacy.

He started off by asking Jerry if had heard of the recent news of Jim Bunning's passing, eager to let Jerry know that Bunning effectively succumbed to the Sports Talk curse, having suffered his stroke a mere week or two after he was on the show the previous year. Jerry thought Jack Morris, Jim Kaat & Tommy John were more deserving HOF inductees.

Stating "ERA means everything to me," Ron said he could name 200 pitchers with better ERAs than Morris. This led to a discussion comparing the stats of Morris & Ron's preferred candidates, Mickey Lolich & Frank Tanana.

When Ron asked Alex to provide him Bunning's ERA, Jerry jumped in to say, "Tell your listeners. Both of them." Ron must not have heard, as there was no responce.

Getting to the source of his then-Morris vitriol, Ron, without any sense of irony, said that Morris was hated by his teammates because he blamed them for his losses. And then the 'personal-is-everything' Ron said, "He couldn't stand me & the feeling was mutual."

Cowboy called, with Jerry saying he only agreed to be on the show because he knew Cowboy would call.

The definitely 'this is a SPORTS show' then proceeded to talk of Paul Newman, who allegedly said hello to Ron at the Daytona 500, Jane Wyman & Doris Day. Ron incorrectly corrected Jerry when he noted Doris Day's signature song was Que Sera Sera. "That wasn't her!"

Kurt called to ask Jerry about his memories of the then-upcoming 50th anniversary of the Detroit riots. For some inexplicable reason, Ron, who in the summer of '67 was working as an elevator operator at the Sheraton Cadillac Hotel, let out a chuckle at the mere mention of the riots. He also issued another incorrect correction when he corrected Kurt's understanding that Jerry Cavanagh was then the Detroit mayor. No, Ron said, "Gribbs was mayor."

After an extended conversation about the best hitting pitcher in history, Ron seemed to abandon his guest, preferring instead to do PBP of the Tigers game.

Continuing his pattern of miscues, Ron began to attribute the saying, "Whoa Nelly" to Kingfish from Amos & Andy before Jerry said that was Keith Jackson's big line.

Jerry must have attracted his share of the fairer sex. A pointless call from new caller (?) Vicki - after an earlier email from Gwen - ended with her asking Ron for 97.1's phone number.

What jumped out to me with this interview was the rapid fire free association from one topic to another. Kurt had to squeeze his sway back into the conversation during his call.

Talked to the wife about attending the Tiki Bar in Walled Lake. She declined, but did go for lunch in that area. I can't take a chance of the stream possibly being down, have to be in transmitter range!

Former Tiger Larry Foster died a few days ago. He would have been a perfect guest. Did Ron talk to him last week?

A one-game career, the year Ron turned 18. He pitched in relief of one of Ron's standard future guests—Phil Regan.

Do you think he was worried about Phil?

Ron must be heartsick about not getting him as a guest. With Ike Blessitt & his four-game career, he would've added to a powerhouse lineup of guests.

This was three days before Denny McLain’s stellar MLB debut. Maybe Denny might have some Larry Foster stories next time he is on.

Will the show open with the traditional We are the Champions theme music? Will Ron have an echo, mic issues as he traditionally does? Will Ron make a grand entrance or will he be fumbling around with the mic at the open? Which advertisers are sticking with him after his big gaffe? Will Ron inform the audience that he has started penning his much anticipated autobiography with Ted Kulfan while he had unexpected time off? How upset is Ron that the Tigers have been winning over the last couple weeks and currently sit in 2nd place in the division? Will there be a public apology for his unadvisable words that were uttered on the airwaves a couple weeks back? Or will Ron start out with a diatribe against WDTK and Luke (last time Luke was a backstabber)? Are we starting with an over/under on callers at 7 for the 2 hr period? I am calling over, being optimistic. Less than 24 hrs before we find the answers to these questions and much, much more.

For those keeping track
Eric Haase batting average- .293
Jake Rogers batting average- .179

There's a lot to talk about.
I'll take the under for callers, as long as Cowboy and Kurt only count one time each, despite calling in both hours.
