Vida Blue, another prospective guest that Ron has mentioned recently has unfortunately died.
Re: Ron Cameron
If Bob Page is aware of Ron's "popularity" here - & I have to believe he is - I'm imaginig a reaction not too dissimilar to that of Jon Lovitz, as Mike Dukakis, in this SNL takeoff on the 1988 presidential debate:

But maybe not so surprised. In the podcast he co-hosted with Denny & El Zaret, Page said that if he ever wrote a book about the many sports personalities he encountered over his long career, e.g., Dick Vitale, Bill Frieder, Eli, Denny, The Bird, all of whom & “so many others” would each get an entire chapter, Ron, though, or "Ron Cameron Crazy," as he called him in a nod to vintage news analyst, John Cameron Swayze, “would be the only guy to get two chapters!”

Re: Ron Cameron
Ron will say "the kids backstabbed me". Meaning Luke and the other ones behind the scenes. When he was banished from the studio's due to the bathroom incidents and then ended up at WPON he said the kids from Dialed In backstabbed him for the time slot. It's full circle-- twice
Re: Ron Cameron
With Shane Bieber on the bump tonight for the Guardians vs. the Tigers in Cleveland, it always reminds me of Ron’s side-splitting humor when he refers the the Guardians pitcher as “Justin Bieber”…that’s the kind of pop-culture awareness, hilarity and high-jinks you expect from “This Is A Sports Show” R-Sizzle!

To add to this very illuminating collection of experiences, I once talked to a salesman for Ron's ads. Ron told him to make up references when he called people.uncleb67 wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 4:28 pmLike his show/schtick/memories/stories and guests, I can also confirm Ron’s sales “techniques” have changed very little over the years, no matter what the era.ShempLives wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 3:44 pm A friend who advertised on Ron's show for only one broadcast told me Mr. Cameron's sales technique involved a claim that Sports Talk had an audience of "thousands." (This was during the show's previous tenure on WPON.) The reason for only one advertisement was that when the show was broadcast my friend's store (located in the New Center area) wasn't able to receive the emanation. When the host arrived the next week for payment, my friend balked, saying that all he heard was static. The mood of the salesmanship changed to one of belligerency with the consequences being the would-be raconteur was "shown the door" and any relationship had ended. As I've mentioned before, said friend told me that he probably would have paid RC, but the bellicose behavior kept the money in the erstwhile advertiser's pocket.
Over a decade ago, RC tried to strong-arm the owners of the company I still work at to purchase an ad for his “nationally-known” radio show with the listening audience of “thousands”, as well. He was new to town and was close to opening a new deli close by. The owners of my place, also having newly opened, considered helping another small business with what seemed like a hustling entrepreneur at the helm.
I immediately recognized RC and incredulously told my bosses who this relic is/was/isn’t, and to stay away! Hustler, yes, but also shyster/charlatan.
After several persistent calls and in-person pestering, and RC losing his cool (hangry, Ron?) when my bosses told him they wouldn’t advertise, my bosses finally gave in and actually gave him a complimentary dinner, just to remove RC from their life.
For his comped dinner, he donned his best pilly sweater and brought a date (e-mailer “Meredith”, maybe?!?!?!), and another couple (not one of his stud roommates, these people were more RC’s age!), and enjoyed a meal “on the house”.
After that, Ron disappeared, his deli was open literally for less than a four months (probably less!) and he never reappeared around here.

Re: Ron Cameron
With fewer callers, no news breaks & likely no access to emails, Ron’s penchant for tall-tale telling will surely be tested. For his sake, there better not be a newspaper strike.

Re: Ron Cameron
I remember when I graduated from college in late 1976, my first job was as an accountant for a CPA on the east side of Detroit. I worked there until 1980, so I don't remember the specific timeframe, but during that time I noticed that the receptionist would frequently, after asking who was calling for my boss, tell the caller that he was out at a client, even though he was working in the office right next to me. One day I finally asked her who was always calling that she wouldn't put through, and she told me it was that damn Ron Cameron guy. Now, back in those days, CPA's were prohibited from advertising so he wasn't selling ads. However, I came to find out that he was stumping for investors in one of his early restaurant ventures and was trying to get my boss to invest in this sure to be lucrative venture. This must have gone on for a few months, and we were all eventually instructed to never let him through if he ever called.
