Lackluster turnout for democrats being is one reason, and some moderates who chose Trump, even though he IS extreme, is why he won. Forget the die hards. I do believe democrats have room to move more left and definitely with more energy. Kamala’s campaign was centrist amongst some left leaning policies, trying to be the calmer, more calculated energy, and warn of impending chaos. For people who didn’t vote, they didn’t like their two choices: extreme Trump and centrist Kamala. Post-2024, centrism isn’t going to beat MAGA.GrahamWellington wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 1:05 pmDo you really think that Democrats will convince Trump voters to switch over by putting up the most extreme left candidate they can find? Re: Nate Silver predicts the 2028 Democratic nominee for president will be.....
Ain't this a bitch? We're already working on losing 2028 as well. This is a problem. The Democrats lose either way. If it's a centrist a la Clinton or Harris, half the party won't vote for them and will call them "republican lite", and will stay home because the candidate farted at a dinner party in 1990 and didn't apologize.
On the other hand, if we put up someone that's too far left, moderates and centrists won't vote for them because they're too fat left. Then we're courting the fucking Cheneys and Reagan appointees to say "Well, no, hang on. We're not THAT nuts. We can even court the people we swore as enemies 20 years ago!"
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, all the Republicans have to do is put up the most vile, hate-filled, ignorant dickbags and (sorry, but I'm channeling my inner Matt) cunts and they slide on in.
Because you know why? It's easier to be a fucking hateful gasbag. It takes too much energy and effort to be moral and have some humanity and empathy. It's so much easier to say "fuck 'em" and believe the worst of people (except Trump and anyone in his orbit). If Karoline Leavitt's ignorant ass got up at that podium tomorrow and said "the sky is magenta", I can already hear NewsMax and Jesse Watters starting their engines.
So what are we to do? Just keep towing the line between "left" (dude, our 'left' is centrist in many other nations) or circa 1986 Reagan policies?
It doesn't really matter with Trump anymore. The same people complaining that Biden's economy was shit are the same people today, with a worse economy, saying they'll 'trust the plan', whatever the fuck that means. They'll be out on the street, nothing but the rags on their back, and will still stick it out for Trump.
And we're the idiots...

But this conversation should start now. We as a country need to figure out how to elect a sane competent person. Trump only won with 1.7 million votes. I don't think we worry about the idiots, they'll be bruising soon enough with the Tarrifs and the world's response.
283,000,000 Americans didn't vote for Trump.

Being a "poster child of the far left wing" is the least of her problems. She's a woman and a minority. That's all it takes to be DQ'd. After the disgusting, vile crap that followed Harris during her run (most of which had zero to do with qualifications) I'm pretty sure I'll never live to see a woman President even if Mother Teresa was reincarnated. America is just too fucking immature to let it ever happen.GrahamWellington wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 12:23 pm AOC is the poster child of the far left wing Democrat that pushed moderates and purple states to Trump. That said, if Vance is the GOP's presumptive candidate then Team Blue's bench starts looking pretty deep. I think there are a handful of Dem's that would probably clean Vance's clock in short order. For better or worse, AOC isn't one of them.

Won't happen for so many reasons. Just a ruse to distract what a empty bench the GOP faces post-Trump. Zero worries.TC Talks wrote: ↑Sat Apr 19, 2025 2:11 pmWhat if it's Trump?Nightfly 2.0 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 19, 2025 1:35 pm That said, if Vance is the GOP's presumptive candidate then Team Blue's bench starts looking pretty deep. Spoken by someone who has ignored the recent poll numbers. Trump is -29 on the economy. That’s bad for the GOP.GrahamWellington wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 12:23 pm AOC is the poster child of the far left wing Democrat that pushed moderates and purple states to Trump. That being said, my Washington sources have said AOC doesn’t want to be president but would sooner take down Schumer in the Senate. Buttigieg is going to run. Gretchen is out as of now.

America is moving left whether you like it or not. AOC is surging with independents and the Dem base. Tim Walz and Bernie Sanders are surging in popularity. Bernie is too old to run but Tim is not.GrahamWellington wrote: ↑Fri Apr 18, 2025 1:05 pmDo you really think that Democrats will convince Trump voters to switch over by putting up the most extreme left candidate they can find? Any data to support this? Millennials are disappointingly pretty conservative.MotorCityRadioFreak wrote: ↑Sat Apr 19, 2025 9:44 pm America is moving left whether you like it or not. Trying to pick a candidate now seems almost ridiculous, but JB Pritzker is more realistic to me.

It makes a hell of a lot more sense for AOC to make a Senate run for Schumer's seat. She has a much larger chance of successfully moving through progressive policies in Congress than she would from the White House. Let her build up a track record of success in Congress before making that White House run.MotorCityRadioFreak wrote: ↑Sat Apr 19, 2025 9:37 pm That being said, my Washington sources have said AOC doesn’t want to be president but would sooner take down Schumer in the Senate.
