The Grio (formally Light TV) shut down and is out of business. AMG also shut down the Local Now channel (formally This TV.)
Interesting...

Brewvine and 10 just recently started promoting their streaming being available on Local Now... and they are.

The Grio is on that streaming platform as well (ch 1001)... both very much working.

I've been watching The Weather Channel periodically today. I've seen numerous ads for Local Now, which evidently has been repositioned as a FAST service, similar to Pluto TV, Samsung TV Plus, or The Roku Channel, as Kager alluded.

There appears to be some sort of partnership with NBC, as their O&O stations evidently have streaming news channels on the service, per one of the ads I saw.

The Grio was Light TV until AMG purchased in 2020. It was a sub-channel for TV stations. AMG shut down The Grio to TV stations a year or so ago, which is why it's not on WJRT any longer.

AMG also purchased This TV, another sub-channel for TV stations that primarily focused on movies from the MGM library. They turned it into a completely new sub-channel called Local Now. I know that they shut down Local Now as a sub-channel to TV stations awhile ago.

From what others have posted, that I was unaware of, AMG is now streaming these channels. Keep in mind that AMG had to pay TV stations to carry both The Grio and Local Now. Since they are having financial problems, it makes since to stop paying to keep them on TV station sub-channels and to just run them as ad supported streaming channels.

TVBobn, you are correct in your statement but, leave us not forget that The Grio name was revived when AMG bought[and later shut down] BNC: Black News Channel, but with all his new problems springing up, I wonder how long its going to be when he hears and sees "vultures"[ private equity firms] and or the specter of "Mr. TV Ownership death" circling AMG HQ in downtown Hollywood ,CA ?!

Personally hoping Byron realizes he’s over his head financially with buying all these TV stations and sells them soon…

This is the best on-air commentary from a station GM I've seen in a very long time.

Huntsville is DMA #81, home to roughly 932,000 people.

After watching that, makes me wonder if that GM is going to feel some heat from corporate.

There still hasn’t been a definitive answer if the ABC12 weather team is safe or not.

The cuts at ABC 12 won’t be done. They reversed the decision on cutting Mets. Good for JR, Kevin and company.

However, the financial situation has not changed for Byron Allen. So more staff cuts will come to WJRT and other Allen stations.

So overpaid JR keeps his job… and how many reporters, producers and photographers will soon get the pink slip?

For now. I wouldn't put it past Byron Allen laying off "senior employees" (those with the highest salaries). JR, Terry Camp, etc.

JR just recently turned 60 as ABC12 posted his birthday on their FB page. His wife is a Doctor. I would guess retirement is somewhere on the horizon shortly.

I was further told by someone who used to work there that if AMG had proceeded with the layoffs, they would not have been surprised if JR just quit showing up there beforehand…

Is the weather team gutted for ABC12 and will now be hubbed at Weather Channel in ATL, as I know Allen Media in IL let go all the weather mets from FTVLive.
