GR has a much larger geographical footprint. 3 targets Kalamazoo and Battle Creek, 13 is more of the north, leaving 8 and 17 for more of the whole market.

WKBD had a decent newsroom many years ago but WJBK flipping to FOX and moving newscasts up to 10 really hurt,
And of course selected people on both sides of the camera went to 7 when 50’s newsroom finally folded. Actually 7’s new news director was one of those people who came from 50… they finally put someone in there that’s been at the station for a long while.

It will be interesting to see what Kennan can do with it. Hopefully, he will be allowed to. No doubt he needed to get away from Mike Murri who only lets newscasts be a sales avenue. As far as 7's new ND, he may have been there a long time but he hasn't done much to help with the numbers all of these years. He is a yes sir and will continue to be that way for Murri, which is exactly what Murri wants. Don't expect much to change at 7 besides the newsroom going rogue because the new ND won't hold people accountable or deal with any confrontation.

Moral victory: It’s still 50x better than it was when Tim Dye was there content wise. I mean at one point the basic specific details like addresses and peoples names when referring to people speaking on camera weren’t being used either on screen or spoken by the reporters and the reporters would say things in their stories that didn’t make sense and there were more technical glitches than anybody should have to endure. That’s sorta starting to happen at 4 now.

I am also throughly convinced 4 has been in first for so long that its viewers dials are simply rusted there.

You are not the first person I’ve seen complain about Mike Murri and sales sales sales. I will say the quality is up since Kennan took off for 62 though. I don’t think we are gonna party like it’s 2006 and they are in first and 4 is reeling. Watching old newscasts from that era… it was very very good.

I can only speak to what beams onto my screen… they could easily come to blows in the newsroom and I would be none the wiser.
