Losing Dave Maurer or keeping Dave Maurer has no bearing on what is happening at Alpha Media Saginaw. Some of you may be aware how Alpha Media, in its infinite wisdom, is cutting markets, sometimes entire ones, across the country. Saginaw is no exception. Every single station in the building has been affected by cuts. WGER and WTLZ are working barebones, and the WSGW news department, that "Monitor" laments as having fallen so low, has only the News Director and one part-time reporter. In Maurer's heyday, there was a full complement of staff in the news department to actually go and cover local events. Now there is barely anyone, and corporate will not allow any new hires.

Technical issues are a direct result of these cuts as well. Not to mention the problems with the building itself. Any time there is a power outage, these problems are exacerbated as we have to wait for them to be resolved after submitting tickets to corporate, 3000 miles away.

Dave Maurer would be dealing with these same issues if he were still Operations Manager. No staff, technical problems and failing infrastructure, with a general manager and corporate leaders who don't give a damn the people who work here are breaking their backs to barely maintain a status quo.
Monitor wrote: Thu Sep 05, 2024 8:49 pm Enjoy that #1 while you can. It’s a result of a presidential election year, Spirit winning the Memorial Cup and a good year for the Tigers. Don’t expect it to repeat in 2025
Z93 has been impressive with their promotions and visibility around that area at key events.
Whatever. Despite all the BS this company is putting us through, WSGW yet manages to persevere. Your continuous complaints about the quality of the station are tiresome and uniformed. If you want to complain about the quality of the news, the quality of the broadcasts, the quality of the stations themselves, lodge them where they belong: Alpha Media. Everyone in this building is doing their damnedest to keep things running as smoothly as possible with the absolute bare minimum while a pervasive threat of further cuts is ever present.

Ya know something Joby? I don’t listen to your Bo-hick hillbilly country station. 94.5 was at least tolerable when it was “Hot Rockin’ Country” unlike now. Your smart ass response to a serious problem isn’t appreciated. If I’m not home watching them, I want to hear the Tigers on the radio especially since they’re playing well. Running crap conservative talk radio instead of a scheduled game is unacceptable and not appreciated when you’re the only station in this area running them

"Realist"... I don't usually respond to keyboard warriors who hide behind fake names unless I know who they are (isn't it convenient you can talk to me directly by using my name as I have nothing to hide by being anonymous?). However, our Bo-hick music station is doing just fine despite our failure to cater to your specific tastes or needs. I guess that's the sacrifice we've made to please a larger audience and to increase revenue. Radio is a business and if business for "hot rockin' country" was doing well, there would never have been a job ad for me to respond to when I applied here in 2004. We're pleased and excited for the health of Bo-Hick 94.5.

Now, let me get back to being a smartass while you suffer the serious issue of people painting a tower to keep it legal and safe for aviators. Cheers!

I hope someone from Audacy Detroit is on this board so they can see how their Detroit Tigers affiliate in the Tri-Cities flippantly handles listener complaints about failure to broadcast their network programming...

Amen

Nice Joby never bothered answering my complaint about WSGW.

Hot Rockin Country 94.5 had decent ratings for a Mt. Pleasant station that wasn’t even targeting the Tri Cities. Then cheapskate owner Wilks Broadcasting tried to take on KCQ by flipping formats to this type of country which hasn’t completely worked out. You and I both know that the Moose 12+ numbers of 5.5 are about half of KCQ’s. Hmmmm

This thread feels like it's in the dark ages. The MLB app carries every single game in the league on demand for $20 bucks a year. Why do you need WSGW or Flint radio for baseball?

Because I’m cheap. I pay enough for both SXM and DirecTV so why would I want another bill?

Because it's not a "bill." It's $20 for every single game in baseball with superior sound quality you can listen to any time. In fact, right now it's like $7 bucks, or less than a Happy Meal. Seems like you'd rather just bitch.

No - I pay for SXM for primarily commercial free music. I don’t care about other MLB teams, just the Tigers.

Sorry, dude, that you feel this way. You have your prerogatives, I have mine….

LOL! You're right, Realist. We've not improved the situation for Bo-Hick 94.5 at all (notice I've said "we" and not "me; radio is a team sport). We're not #1 across the TSA, we haven't been third in cume in the metro for two years, aren't first in cluster revenue, aren't first in some pretty dang important demos, we don't dominate in the old "Hot Rockin'" counties of Isabella & Clare. We've never beaten KCQ overall or in any important demos numerous times nor did Mac call come-to-Jesus meetings when we never accomplished that for the very first time in signal history well over a decade ago. We're just a metro rimshot station that performs as exactly that. We long for the glory days of using our massive signal and serving one community and the limited revenue which comes with that focus. I don't know why three different owners have kept me here thus far with all we've failed to accomplish; it's idiocy. But, it is radio and maybe you've heard the saying: "I f'n love radio and radio loves f'n me". So, it could happen. But, if it does, I won't come here under a different, anonymous name and bitch about it (though I may change my avatar).

Imagine the irony of someone on a media board using the moniker "Realist" thinking they can decipher success of a brand based on a P12+ number. I'll take the demo numbers over 12+ any day including the several where Bo-Hick 94.5 is #1.

I, too, hope Audacy reads this board. They likely realize the difference between someone who is a PD for one of their affiliates and someone who is not. Seems we have more than one bitter ex-employee on this thread who no longer has any idea what's going on behind the scenes but frothing at the keyboard thinking they do. Nothing wrong with being bitter if one loses their job (it's happened to me twice), just weird to bring it on a message board while cowardly hiding behind fake names (that seemed to be the purview with employees or ex-employees of the local TV stations on this board the last several years).

Chirp away, keyboard warriors! Maybe I'll check back in over the weekend. For now though, I'm swamped with music and another upcoming promotion.
