Out of curiosity, did CBS Detroit treat the situation with the full weight it deserves and refer to it as an assassination attempt, or did they merely say it was a "shooting"? I've noticed that some news outlets try to downplay it as a shooting
When someone is shot, you don't know if it was an assassination attempt until you can determine the motive. There are more reasons that political motive to want to kill someone -- sometimes there is no reason at all.
WHAT?? An assassination doesn't have to have anything to do with politics at all, nor does it need a reason. This was obviously not an accident that the former President was shot. And that was pretty clear very early on. You can say that the person who ultimately died was not assassinated, but instead murdered. And the two who were critically injured were not assassination attempts, but attempted murder.
Hey Kimosabe… assassination is nearly always politically motivated attempts to kill prominent government officials or would be officials. That’s the whole idea. This was regular old attempted murder. You wouldn’t talk about the assassination of the CEO of GM… it would just be a murder. The guy had no axe to grind politically and in fact was on Trumps side of the aisle. He was simply nuts.
Donald Trump… In your guts you know he’s nuts.

"the premeditated act of killing someone suddenly or secretively, especially a prominent person". It's a subset of murder and while it CAN be a politician or prominent person, it doesn't have to be. Ask the mob, as they've pulled off plenty of assassinations. They're just targeted or preplanned murders.

And you have no idea whether or not he had an axe to grind politically. No one really knows yet. And you also cannot say he "was on Trumps side of the aisle" just because at one time he registered as a Republican. Plenty democrats and leftists do that just so they can vote in a primary for the "other side".

He registered as a Republican, voted in Republican primaries, his family was hardcore MAGA, he was wearing gun paraphernalia from a website that also specializes in explosives and is quite right wing when found dead and people who knew him in school said he always took the conservative side in class discussions. If it walks like a duck and it talks like a duck…

But since he also looked up Biden and the DNC it tells us he likely just wanted to find someone prominent to shoot possibly to guarantee he would be killed. Trump was a much shorter hike and no matter how botched security is… you ain’t coming out alive.

It’s amazing what you can find out by not being in a bubble somewhere. Try it sometime.
