Dire Straits' "Walk of Life" -- wrongly interpreted as "Walk On By".

Both Sides Now

Written by Joni Mitchell. Hit performance by Judy Collins.

Sometimes, the misheard lyric is as valid or more valid than the actual lyric

So many things I would have done
But clowns got in my way...

If you're confused by the clarity and truth of the misheard song lyric, "clowns" is actually "clouds".

Clowns get in my way,
Every day,
Every day.

Elvis' "Suspicious Minds":

Elvis:
Here we go again
Asking where I've been
You can't see the tears are real, I'm crying

Backup:
Yes, I'm crying

The backup's response I always heard as "It's a crime".

Our son was about 4 years old when that song was out. He embarrassed his mother by singing those words.

From Train, "Calling All You Angels"

Correct lyrics:
I want a reason
for the way things have to be
I need a hand
to help build up some kind of hope
inside of me

Misheard lyrics:
I want a reason
for the way things have to be
I need a hand
to help build up some kind of hope
in sodomy.

Jack and Diane:

"Long after the threat of living is gone".
When I was a kid I thought that it was a clever way of saging death threat.
You know, all those classic "living is gone" threats people say to each other 😆
