with AM , doesn't higher modulation = greater distance of receiving the signal, and higher distance getting a "good signal"?

Higher modulation by an AM station is more effective at overcoming external sources of noise (electrical lines, transformers, motors, etc.) certainly.

I have noticed improved signal strength over the past several weeks. The station is easier for me to find on an analog radio. I frequently listen via AM radio in my basement home office in Livonia. It sounds "louder". I am currently staying at my parents house while my house is getting a mild renovation. Growing up here, CKWW was always difficult to receive and somewhat quiet; I am now listening on my vintage portable radio, and it's loud and clear.

They just played an old CKWW jingle from the Bell days, so that's pretty cool. First jingle I've heard since the transition.

580's audio right now is much lower than WJR, WWJ, WDTW and WXYT. It is even noticeably lower than CKLW.

My guess is 580 is using crappy equipment held together with duct tape and bubble gum.

Was that way yesterday as well.
