Re: End the death penalty TODAY
This situation is horrifying. If someone survives these drugs, what happens to the physical health of the person? I can't imagine that surviving 2 doses of lethal drugs would result in absolutely no effect on the body.
The article says "Attorneys for Pike said in an emergency motion that she was subjected to 'unnecessary agony' after two syringes of pentobarbital failed. 'Ms. Pike has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat and is audibly snoring,' they wrote."

I agree that this abhorrent.....but this woman tortured a young girl for hours, before killing her. I wont lose any sleep about this.Matt wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2026 1:03 pm https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nat ... 035113007/

Re: End the death penalty TODAY
Shouldn’t someone like that be kept on the brink of death for decades to get 10 times the agony or something? Killing them isn’t really a penalty since once they are gone they won’t care which is my problem with the whole thing. It’s almost feel good for the victims family and that’s about it.Honeyman wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2026 1:48 pmI agree that this abhorrent.....but this woman tortured a young girl for hours, before killing her. I kind of agree, but I dont like the idea of the taxpayers paying the bill for however long this person lives.Rate This wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2026 4:35 pmShouldn’t someone like that be kept on the brink of death for decades to get 10 times the agony or something? Obviously nobody gets put to death in California but I know of a man here who fought to be charged with the death penalty. There are privilages those on death row get that are "better" than those sentenced to life in prison. Granted, this is a f'd up state, but others might be similar.

You're not alone, cost is usually the sticking point with my idea when I have mentioned it. Re: End the death penalty TODAY
I would say end lethal injection or at least regulate it better. The state of Tennessee is so inefficient, they can't even kill people.
We have to at least keep it around long enough to punish the killers of Renee Good, Alex Pretti, and maybe a few Trump regimers.
Me either.Honeyman wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2026 5:38 pmI kind of agree, but I dont like the idea of the taxpayers paying the bill for however long this person lives.Rate This wrote: ↑Thu Oct 01, 2026 4:35 pmShouldn’t someone like that be kept on the brink of death for decades to get 10 times the agony or something? Re: End the death penalty TODAY
The subtle irony here is that the government has gone so far off the rails trying to do this in a "humane" way that in reality, when things like this happen, the person being put to death will undergo way more suffering than if the government simply used a bullet to end her life.
I'm generally opposed to the death penalty except in the most extreme cases. Just based on what very little I've read about this particular case, I probably would not have supported it here.
