WCXI Cool1160

I wasn't sure exactly the time of the flip but fired up the AM on the hearing protectors while doing grass (reception is very finnicky due to directional antenna used on a device that moves with you) and heard a couple songs. Heard the hosts mention they will play 60's music up to 2000... I am a big fan of what is done on CFZM Zoomer radio with their music and if WCXI can do anything like Zoomer radio with a very deep and expansive playlist, that would certainly put them on my radar. I was impressed nonetheless with what I heard as some songs I hadn't recalled hearing before on Detroit radio or off the radio.

Wow got lucky and listened to first hour of broadcast.Great signal into east Windsor. Is that 250watts??

I heard that too and also a mention of WCXI getting a lot of BUZZ in the area too so I took that as an indirect reference to this buzzboard getting a shout out, but also seen that it made headlines on Radioinsight:

I agree. Jingles WOULD add that special touch to the station! I can already hear it..... "Cool eleven sixxxxty!" I wonder how expensive a jingle package costs? But yeah, it would be fantastic!

Theres a guy on youtube thats into internet radio and he was showing how to create your own jingles using AI.

And they didnt sound to bad.Will put a link if I can find him again.

I will note that the brother stair broadcasts still live on the Birach website live stream for WCXI for the time being. They should ether eliminate those broadcasts or move them to a dedicated Brother Stair page to help eliminate confusion

Edit: WCAR's webpage still has the WSDS stream and simulcast info. With all the changes at Birach Broadcasting their website editor person has a mounting To-Do list

Why did 1160 switch to a narrow bandwidth filter?

Audio does not sound as good as before! They need to return to full bandwidth.

Is this a precursor to installing IBOC HD, I wonder?

1160 is licensed for 15 kW ERP days. It is a directional signal, though, so actual ERP varies by azimuth. Areas north and east receive the best signal strength. Areas south receive medium signal strength. Areas west receive the least signal, but bear in mind the TX site is about 35 miles NW of downtown Detroit, so most or all of the western suburbs receive a good or great signal in the daytime.

At night, they are licensed for only 400 watts ERP.

IBOC would be a tremendous waste of money. They should consider purchasing translators for both WCAR and possibly WCXI in the future.

Streaming it now, was immediately met with War's "The World is a Ghetto".

Might keep it going for a bit this afternoon and see if I like it.

Edit: had to play Summer of Mother Fucking '69 right after, didn't ya? Eh, it is what it is... I'll keep it on despite that.

I think it's a good effort, but who knows how it'll work out long-term. Rooting for you guys, but you might want a translator or something if that's even possible.
