We seriously need to rebuild the mental health system we had 75 years ago.

They need to keep this nut in the mental hospital. Sad that a few bad apples in the 60s & 70s closed a lot of these places down should bring them back.

That’s true. But if you’ve been in any medium-big sized downtown area in the state… say Lansing, GR, Flint, Pontiac, Ann Arbor… you’d need a few just to make it inhabitable. The majority of people wouldn’t let them go to that extreme.

Bad Apples? It was that Umpa Lumpa Engler that "Privatized" mental health systems to the CMH model. Then they slowly choked those to force privatization. Then the imbursement rate got so bad, all the out of state operators pulled out.

Today, even suicide watch individuals are left in an ER, which is hugely inefficient until the federal minimum requirement is met, then they are let to go kill themselves.

I have sued our local CMH twice, and in both cases, the state sided with my incapacitated homeless person, but acknowledged they wouldn't pay to cover the cost of the services CMH was mandated to provide.

Your state legislature, with billions in surplus, is to blame for our collapse of the mental health safety net. The EDC "slush fund" makes me cringe because that money would go really far.

Of course this guy will be out sooner than he should, it's what "The People" want via the total apathy for the welfare system.
