This is unprecedented and a slippery slope. This should be condemned.
Maybe Michigan shouldn't have played like total horseshit. Their inexcusably abysmal performance on their home field is what I'm going to condemn. The players, to their credit, recognize their performance was unacceptably poor.
The Big Ten front office is filled with untrustworthy shitheads.
Sure, no argument there. I have an issue with a guy arbitrarily changing the result of a game when the ratings are consequential.
This is unlikely to have a material impact on playoff berths. If last Saturday's performance wasn't a fluke, U-M won't have to worry about narrowly making or narrowly missing the playoffs.
Of course not, it was their “mistake” and bullshit defense of said “mistake” that caused the whole fucking controversy. Not Michigan, not the NCAA. Glad the MAC came to their senses and called them out on it officially.

Not that it will make any real difference:

Let's close the barn door now that the horses have run out.
Just imagine the amount of good will and reputation restoration that Michigan would do if they forfeited the game. So of course that would never happen in a thousand years.

Why would/should they forfeit a game they won legitimately? This is peak idiocy, even for someone who still defends Trump.

I love how that memo implies that there was no consistent rule before, but now they're going to create one moving forward. Completely ignoring that the protocol did in fact already exist and was written directly into the 2026 NCAA rule book.

There wouldn't be as much good will as you think. They would instead be a laughingstock and viewed as soft. In the sports world, it's far better to viewed as the evil empire than to be soft.

I wonder how clear that rule actually is.
The program feed could very well be what the B1G used to make its decision. The network has the option of taking the feed directly (ie displaying the actual scoreboard clock) or modifying that feed to generate it's own graphics.

I was going to write the same thing. If Michigan really wanted to clearly set their future course towards "abiding by rules" and "following the law", regardless of their past, then this would be a H*** step in the right direction.

There's a better chance of Trump giving Obama the Congressional Medal of Honor.
If there was undisputed evidence the extra second should not have been allowed, I'd be the first say Michigan should vacate its victory over WMU.
The problem is - there is conflicting evidence. The Big Ten replay center says its timer was correct. There is video evidence, albeit likely not impervious to tampering, to support the Big Ten's claim. Other unofficial videos suggest several tenths of a second remained.
Had WMU player #18 not been out of bounds and touched the football, the win for WMU likely would've been signed, sealed and delivered.
Michigan didn't do anything here except take advantage of what was given to them. I suppose you could say they should forfeit, but with the money at stake for bowl and playoff appearances, you can't blame them for not doing that.
But they ARE going to have to wear it. Everybody knows they lost, everybody saw their superhype $3M QB suck, everybody saw their moron fans rush the field, everybody knows a Big Ten crew gave an extra play to a Big Ten team, everybody knows the NCAA has said that the Big Ten totally fucked this up. Everybody is rooting against them. This is their national image now, they win when they cheat and get gifts from the officials.
