Week of 9/6

Unread post by MWmetalhead »

Next chance of rain looks to be late Tuesday night into Wednesday evening, with some model data showing a possibility of 0.5 to 1 inch. The GFS places the heaviest precip across far southern Michigan whereas the ECMWF places the heaviest precip across west central and NW lower Michigan. Severe weather looks to be a possibility since both major models show decent bulk shear; however, surface based instability is not terribly impressive, with peak values of near or just under 1000 j/kg. Once that system rolls through, the models are forecasting dry weather.

Most days, high temps in southern Michigan will likely be within a couple degrees of seasonal averages.

My forecasted high temps for Detroit and for Grand Rapids:

9/6: 79, 77
9/7: 77, 78
9/8: 81, 82
9/9: 79, 75
9/10: 74, 74
9/11: 76, 77
9/12: 81, 80
9/13: 77, 75

GFS model run from 8AM this morning; first number is projected 5PM temp for Detroit and second number is projected 5PM temp for Grand Rapids:

9/6: 79, 78
9/7: 78, 80
9/8: 80, 83, with major heat wave from the central plains into the ozarks and mid-south.
9/9: 69, 72
9/10: 72, 71
9/11: 76, 77
9/12: 79, 82
9/13: 84, 70 (this solution has very low confidence given absurd output showing highs of 102 in Des Moines and 103 in Springfield, IL).

Euro-AIFS (Artificial Intelligence Forecasting System) model run from 8AM this morning; first number is projected 2PM temp for Detroit and second number is projected 2PM temp for Grand Rapids (I was unable to obtain 5PM data from this source):

9/6: 77, 78
9/7: 75, 79
9/8: 79, 82
9/9: 81, 75
9/10: 74, 74
9/11: 73, 75
9/12: 80, 79
9/13: 74, 73

I agree. This is the type of weather I like for this time of year. Today was 10 out of 10 in my book.

Gorgeous September weather. I could do this all year.

A pleasant 79 and 58 yesterday. I am looking forward to 70-75 and a nice cool breeze myself. Whenever that comes.

At least two Detroit TV stations 24 hours ago were calling for highs in the mid 80s today and plenty of dry hours.

Gee, that doesn't seem to be working out too well so far.

The warm weather is confined to Ohio and perhaps Monroe County.

Based on radar trends, I think SE Michigan will see occasional showers and a risk of a thunderstorm for at least a few more hours.
