FCC Issues Violation Notice to Detroit 107.9 FM Translator

Unread post by EdWalker »

An agent from the Federal Communications Commission’s Enforcement Bureau found a Detroit FM translator to be transmitting at 394% of its authorized transmitting power, while using an antenna that did not match its required directional pattern.

It's good to see enforcement action taken on rules violating translators.

I wonder if Salem's 101.5 still has surprisingly good signal strength in the Livonia area, if ya catch my drift?

I remember going through the radio stations at Stony Creek near 26 Mile and 107.9 was coming in clear as day nearly 40 miles away. Definitely wasn't low wattage.

No wonder it was booming in crystal clear near 15 mile and Utica last Saturday during light tropo. I thought it was just a clear shot signal but wow that is a big violation. I had checked AM 1310 and 107.9 was simulcasting the parent station in real time. Edit: that area does normally recieve a signal, it should have been a fringe signal not a local signal

I wonder if W232CA will get hit? It has been reported within this Buzzboard that the signal makes it into Canada and interferes with CKSY in Windsor and nearby despite coverage maps depicting a sharp null that should cut off any penetration into Canada.

I remember picking this up in Windsor, and not just downtown. 107.9 in Amherstberg was getting destroyed by it unless you were close to the transmitter.

I agree with this. And HD (IBOC) too can go, it was a good concept but just hogs up waaay too much adjacent frequency spectrum when utilized.
