I can't help but notice that Matt's been strangely silent on clockgate.

Whether the extra second should have been added or not doesn't change the fact that Buchanan made a hell of a statistically improbable play to win the game. Michigan definitely played like shit today and hopefully they'll use this experience as a wakeup call.

Re: Fact checking help
Yeah, I read all of that as you posted it. What I see there is nothing but dodging and what-about-isms that have nothing to do with the real issue - and that is whether we want to overturn the results of games based purely on hundredths of a second determined by no more evidence than synced together cameras - technology that apparently even a major broadcast network can't perfect?
Re: Fact checking help
The game result wasn't overturned. The game was not over. I'm not sure what the issue is, both the B1G review and the video Ant Wright posted showed there was time left.

Matt will bitch about a couple seconds from a previous play, and say nothing about the blatant face mask on WMUs last drive that wasn't called. He is what he is, a blind, devout michigan supporter. He's not objective, but he is loyal.

Re: Fact checking help
The Big 10 released 37 seconds of footage. And if that's the complete record of how the decision was made in real-time, then it sure looks to me like they rushed that decision without looking at much evidence. For starters, the one guy you can hear exclaiming "NOW" says so from looking at the end zone feed which you can't even see the player actually touching the ball because his back is blocking the shot. Second, the only time they side-by-sided anything with the game clock was that one end zone feed.
That doesn't prove anything. That clock, plus BOTH of the play angles (NBC's and the end zone) should have all been on the screen at once (I'm pretty sure they're able to easily do that). Then you can (a) verify that everything is actually in sync, (b) verify the exact moment the ball actually touched the defender's hands (because NBC's feed shows that much more clearly than does the end zone feed), and (c) ensure that the clock doesn't show zero once all those conditions are met.
To me - as someone who didn't care either way who won the game - they sure looked like they were in one big over-anxious hurry to declare that there was definitely time left on the clock without thoroughly reviewing the evidence or having any conversation over whether the proof was definitive or not.

Re: Fact checking help
I come at this as someone who neither likes nor dislikes Michigan football (though they sure seem to have their share of controversies) and doesn't know much about Western Michigan football. If I have any bias here, it is that I love watching upsets of this caliber when I don't otherwise care either way about the teams involved.Honeyman wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2026 1:00 pm Don't waste your time, beemer. So my reasonably-objective view is that this whole thing stinks to high heaven. And I actually don't think that the Big 10's footage release shows their replay reviewers in a particularly positive light. A call that important at a bare minimum deserved a little more review than it got. It came across almost as if they were just LOOKING for the first thing they could point to that would support adding time and then immediately just ran with that.

I am not unbiased, but I have read multitudes of articles, stories, etc. from everywhere. They are virtually unanimous that WMU got jobbed. People saw it with their own eyes.
Another point that tags on to yours about the quick decision is that WMU probably weren’t even in their right mind. They just pulled off the biggest upset they’ll ever be a part of and are euphoric, only to have it pulled out from under them and told they have to go back out there for another play. No way were their heads in the game the way they normally would be. All the more reason why that was complete horseshit.
I'm basically resigned to it because nothing is going to change. I'll relegate to posting memes, but arguing at this point is fruitless. um got away with another one. And college football sinks a little lower.

Re: Fact checking help
The thing is though even if Michigan does somehow turn their season around quickly and makes it into a high quality bowl game or even the playoffs (not likely but possible), public opinion is already formed and for most people, they will have a asterisk hanging over their heads for the entire season. Which, just trying to be objective here, if it is really NBC's clocks that were wrong and the Big 10 got everything right per the rule book and Michigan legitimately won that game, then I would also say that the asterisk is unfair. Karma maybe, but still unfair.
Re: Fact checking help
Interesting that you've commandeered this thread about your hero into a Michigan football thread. If Michigan is in a position to be in the CFP, it will mean last night's game was an outlier. Also, Western played a great game, and last night could be its only loss.bmw wrote: ↑Sun Sep 06, 2026 2:17 pm The thing is though even if Michigan does somehow turn their season around quickly and makes it into a high quality bowl game or even the playoffs (not likely but possible), public opinion is already formed and for most people, they will have a asterisk hanging over their heads for the entire season.
