Yes, the people living in Bay City want it gone... My friends who still live in town hate the tolls. Having a city split in half by the Saginaw River means crossing is apart of your daily routine.
County officals dont have a say in it. City residents are tolled at a lower rate than not, but people try to claim their Bay City zip codes should include them but they live in the townships.
They have four drawbridges in Bay City. Independence, Liberty, Veterans Memorial and Lafayette.
Indepdence and Liberty were city owned and are now the toll bridges. Veterans Memorial is the only MDOT bridge open as Lafayette has been closed for a complete rebuild. Almost everyone in town now uses the MDOT bridge to avoid the tolls.
Lafayette is also the furthest south, and everyone coming from the south end and westside uses the next up bridge, which is also M-25 that goes into downtown.
M-15 now ends at M-25.
M-15 sees little traffic to Vassar. Many of the cars turn off onto M-83 to Frankenmuth. M-15 in Bay City is a two lane residental street, and it would backup on holiday weekends with people using M-15 to avoid I-75.
Independence is the bridge that would be part of the proposed M-15 route. Its a four lane span built in the 1960s. It connects with Wilder Road, which is the main shopping corridor. Wilder Road connects with I-75 north of US10,
