Here is the nitty gritty of what Scripps is implementing:

FOX 17 TV Station Employees Among Layoffs In Scripps Streaming Transformation

Adam Symson, president and CEO of Scripps, sent a two-page memo to all employees on Tuesday that announced “268 colleagues we work alongside are losing their jobs.”

“We are now in the implementation phase of our transformation plan, and that means we’re making some difficult decisions,” Symson wrote. “These are teammates who have helped build and serve this company in important ways, and we are deeply grateful for everything they have contributed.”

"Scripps plans to launch 24/7 local news streams and produce content continuously rather than primarily for scheduled newscasts, according to the letter."

"The company plans to move from a traditional broadcast-centered organization to one built around streaming, digital publishing, centralized production, AI-assisted operations and expanded local reporting, according to the letter."

Scripps hasn’t been right since they expanded beyond the original 9 stations or whatever they had before they went on a purchase spree starting with McGraw Hill. 2 and 4 already have streaming channels but I think they still primarily produce their content with potential use on the newscasts in mind.

Not quite word for word, but pretty much what CBS said when they finally added local news at WWJ-TV in 2023.

Mike Duffy, Carolyn Clifford, Simon Shaykhet and Glenda Lewis… who is the fifth evening anchor they would cut?

So I’m guessing they cut the person in charge of their YouTube channel and replaced them with AI or automated the task or something… since the week after the layoffs it’s been repetitively double posting stories and has gone as far as posting a story from KMGH 7 in Denver with the WKBW 7 Buffalo logo in the upper right corner… on Channel 7’s channel. I can only imagine what other fun things Scripps foray into AI will bring us. It’s also doing really poor cuts of the clips and has been cutting a few stories off right in the middle… it just ends suddenly mid sentence.
