The changes to WPON make sense. Still brings in revenue from the brokered shows.

WCXI and WCAR, certainly it’s an upgrade to the formats and there was a large overlap between the latter and WSDS signal wise. Have you planned on how you will get advertising? Shooting for an FM translator? That’ll be the real issue to making these stations stick around. It’s a tough business especially on AM.

Will there be deeper cuts thrown in once in a while?

This could be the final nail on the coffin for CKWW’s minuscule audience.
Advertising and translators will probably be the toughest challenges for this project. I have a few advertisers lined up already, and I'm working with Sima to get a sales crew together for all the stations, not just my two. I do plan on looking out for an available translator and even getting in touch with some of the bigger FMs to maybe lease out an HD subchannel.

I am a firm believer in "oh wow" music. Favorites, rarities, and everything in-between (if you catch my drift.) Many stations don't believe in it, but ours will. In the case of WCAR, it's going to be a lot like WPON but with a ton more structure. WCXI is just going to be my dream classic hits station, a good balance of hits and flips without running certain songs into the ground and playing the same junk every day (like a certain FM)

I 100% expect CKWW to make a move or two when we launch. They already took a couple notes from WPON when we started moving the music forward. When they switched to a more "classic hits" format after the CINA takeover, Detroit (and Windsor) have lacked a good oldies station. Will they go back? Maybe. I am all in for some friendly competition if they do. We'll see what happens there....

CKWW added in a bunch of 60s music months ago and reduced 80s spins quite a bit. They still have nearly zero advertisers. The station is basically a jukebox on auto pilot.

The CINA people screwed that station up badly during the first 6 to 12 months of their ownership.

Most AM oldies stations if not all are just jukeboxes on auto pilot, WCXI will just be on steroids for a while. Unfortunately, it's a little to late to start a music format on AM when many stations are turning in their licenses because of the financial situation that AM radio is in. If this were an FM station it would have a better chance of survival. The state of internet radio is currently facing financial issues as well with the rising cost of music royalties. Many internet stations are asking for donations and my face going under. I hope for the best for WCXI it will be a tough uphill battle to make money on AM and getting listeners the only listeners that know about this station are us radio geeks. Good Luck.

CKWW is playing more early 60s and even late 50s music at times. They still have the 80s but not as frequently as before. It’s an oldies/classic hits hybrid with Cancon. I actually heard a few ads today, including a reverse mortgage lender in Windsor and a flooring company in Westland.

The reason I think CKWW will throw in the towel, other than lack of advertising is the audience of a niche format will be further fractured. 1160 when fixed has the better signal over most of the Michigan side during the day, and the Ontario side has a smaller potential audience in general.

Sales to Sima Sr was merely people finding the stations and buying time. Sima Jr apparently is willing to throw some money in to make money.

Speaking of 1090, it’s either completely off or on extremely low power. I was in Westland today and couldn’t pick it up. It’s not a station I monitor much at all.

NESNerd427 wrote: Thu Aug 06, 2026 9:35 pm Hey gang, I guess it's about time I give my "state of the union" on Birach and what's going on with WCXI.

First off, I am the culprit behind Cool 1160. This has been a passion project for me since 2018, believe it or not! This new station is an evolution of my first foray into radio, a part 15, low power station called 87.9 WWCH that ran out of my bedroom. That station ran on and off for a few years, got shelved, and was then revived a couple years back as a full time internet station thanks to a few friends of mine.

I presented the idea to Sima Jr. a couple months back to bring some REAL programming to his Brother Cult and other misc. burner stations. He agreed and we are now running this as a joint collaboration between Birach Broadcasting and Revolving Door Media LLC, my new company (the veterans will know where I got the name for it.)

Now, on to the other stations. I saw a few replies asking about WPON and what's happening with it. WPON, as many of you already know, is a weird case. I would love to clean it up, have it stick to the format instead of being completely off the deep end, and make it somewhat profitable. The issue is that there are too many niche and grandfathered shows that would go kicking and screaming if we took them off the air (plus shows I would hate to take off period), and the pattern and signal are too directional and weak to really do anything with. WCXI I'm at least somewhat confident in because it's 15KW, WPON at 670W...not so much. What WPON needs to do is drop it's format entirely and become a community format, open to anything and everyone. That way when a show plays some song from the current top 40 or any of the Hindu shows come on, it won't be so jarring. WPON barely sticks to the "format" anyway, so I don't think dropping it would cause too much chaos.

Now to address the question out of that...are you guys just going to not have an oldies station anymore??? That's where WCAR comes in. We received permission from Sima to drop the Spanish WSDS feed and do our own thing. We are going currently putting together a true, honest to God, oldies station for Detroit. No format breaks, no willy-nilly programming, just oldies. We'll be taking most of the music from WPON and even some of the specialty shows like Weekend Soft Side and Midnight Freakout (and some may be syndicated on WCXI as well).

Oh, and WNZK will still be WNZK. No shocker there.

To wrap up this long state of the union, I want to quickly thank you all for the positive preliminary thoughts on the web feed. This has been a massive passion project for me and I couldn't have done it without Phil from WPON and the support from the entire Birach crew, my friends and my family. It really is a dream come true for me. As soon as we get the transmitters repaired for WCXI and WCAR (hopefully in the next two weeks or so), we will be good to launch, so stay tuned!
Wow this is absolutely fantastic!!!! I cannot express how happy I am to hear all this great news! You sir have once agian given the breath of life to these once amazing radio stations. The very fact that you have rekindled the love and passion of radio speaks to me. A humongous THANK YOU is in order here. I look forward to cool 1160 and oldies 1090 the car... Beep beep beep beep... Yeah! Congratulations on living your dream, and thank you for making my dream of oldies back on the radio in Detroit!
Let's not wet our diapers, it's just an AM Station that plays Classic Hits. Nothing to get too excited about.

Then why the fuck did you post about it in the first place Casey/Tyler/LL101/Paul Richards/Steve Chevette/I'dLetJessicaDupnackQueefInMyMouth/etc/etc.? granted it's not your beloved Carpenters internet station that even fewer people listen to than AM in 2026.

Hey NES-
How big will your library be? If it’s 1000 or higher, I’ll listen regularly.

Webstream on zeno seems to be down. An ad plays then nothing but silence. It displays the song title but no audio. I have had the station on pretty much every day since Saturday and I gotta say I'm very impressed with the playlist.

The Zeno app is crap, I have no problem with using the Tunein app for WCXI Cool 1160. The best thing for Cool 1160 is to have it's own app for both IOS and Android. The app should include all 4 Detroit stations from Birach. Just a suggestion.

Same here, been frequenting 1160 AM just to see if WCXI has flipped or not. I have not noticed a change in programming over the air yet, been wondering if there is a planned flip date, or if it is a surprise?

Why flip to a format that's going to have trouble generating revenue?

I assume the Overcomer Ministry is still sending payment for its airtime.

I predict that in the next 5 (maybe 10) years the land that houses the towers of all Birach owned stations nationwide will be the only cash cow of the company. The stations themselves will be worthless and the company will turn in all station licenses and sell all that land. Birach will generate revenue through streaming their programming 100% on the internet and through apps. Terrestrial radio at this point will be in it’s endgame especially AM.
