Week of 4/12
Re: Week of 4/12
No chance of sleeping through this in Salem Township right now. Quite the nonstop lightning show.

I think there'll be a lot of straight line wind damage reports from Washtenaw and Wayne counties.

69 mph gust at DTW was recorded as the heart of the storm rolled through.

Re: Week of 4/12
I’m about 2 miles north of the airport…. Very impressive gust of wind and quite a bit of rain. We had thunder here about 30 or more minutes before anything happened and very vivid lightning. The thunder was fairly loud too which was surprising considering the large distance from any storm at the time.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2026 2:21 am 69 mph gust at DTW was recorded as the heart of the storm rolled through.

Even here in Warren, we had high winds from 1:30-2:30. Shocked we weren’t warned.

Re: Week of 4/12
I've counted 20 tornado warning issuances across lower Michigan tonight:
-1 by NWS Gaylord
-11 by NWS Grand Rapids
-6 by NWS Pontiac
-2 by NWS Northern Indiana
So far, I'm unaware of any radar confirmed or visually confirmed touchdowns. Most warnings were induced by notches appearing on radar.

Re: Week of 4/12
The severe weather over southern Wisconsin was many magnitudes worse than what lower Michigan received tonight.

Going back through my posts (I just left a radar loop open and watched the warnings come and go)…MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2026 2:44 am I've counted 20 tornado warning issuances across lower Michigan tonight:

Noted one west of Carson City as radar confirmed. Sometime later a Spotter confirmed tornado over Otsego. All other warnings never went beyond radar indicated rotation. So at least two of them actually happened.

WZZM corroborates that account:
https://www.wzzm13.com/article/news/loc ... b?tbref=hp
I think the Otsego warning was issued originally based on radar indicated rotation and then was subsequently upgraded based on visual confirmation.
I only reviewed original issuance text when posting my prior message, so there may be others that fall into a similar boat.

Re: Week of 4/12
I clicked each one every 5 minutes or so and noted the time of issuance so there shouldn’t be any reported as confirmed we are missing. The app I was using was replacing the original text with the remains in effect text as the NWS changed it. I could also see the polygons updating in real time (actually faster than the weather radio, sirens or EAS which I figured out when the Washtenaw County warning happened). Both Otsego and Carson City were issued as radar indicated and then changed to confirmed.MWmetalhead wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2026 8:00 am WZZM corroborates that account:

I’m kinda bummed that the next two days potential events are more evening or daylight affairs since I’ll be at work. It looks like a slight risk today and a marginal risk tomorrow as of now.

The high at Metro was 81 yesterday… 2 80’s in a row is impressive.

Re: Week of 4/12
I spent a couple hours on Saturday picking up twigs and branches all over the place from the high winds a few weeks ago. Now I see lots more from this storm.
I'm feeling it big time from the lost sleep from the lengthy storm noise. I can remember about 10% of what was said in a work town hall this morning.

Re: Week of 4/12
I just wanted to chime in here and say there's a marvelous YouTube channel called Michigan Storm Chasers which was live with a near full-screen radar and commentary throughout all of this early morning's "action".
I turned to WDIV/4 and they were airing their usual replay of the 11 O'clock News. WWJ/62 and WJBK/2 were airing regular dumb late night programming...all during the passing of a tornado warning in the downriver area! What the actual f__k!
Granted, this was shortly after the major danger passed across the river into Ontario, but the watches were still long in effect. Did anyone here tune into our local channels during the height of the actual tornado warning?
I'm a Comcast/Xfinity customer currently without WXYZ/7 during their contract dispute.
