Oakland and Genesee severe thunderstorm warnings now have a "destructive winds" tag for possible gusts to 80 mph.

There are 90+ mph winds just above the surface showing on radar in west central Oakland County right now.

The line is looking more ragged on the two most recent radar scans. Hopefully inflow off the cold waters of Lake Erie plus approach of sunset is causing some weakening. The line is less than 10 miles to my west.

Very little lightning is left in Metro Detroit.

330,000 people are without power. The ice storm power outages are taking precedent over the Southern storm issues.

The wind here proved to be a nothing burger. Peak gusts were maybe 35 mph.

It rained batshit crazy for about five minutes and still getting a soaking rain right now. Seeing more in the way of lightning in the past five minutes.

350,000 power outages statewide. Almost everyone in NE Michigan is without power due to the crippling ice storm.

Half the outages are in Consumers Energy's territory in western and central lower Michigan.

We got hit hard with rain here at 23/96. The sirens were constantly going off, which, if what MW said about the NW corner is true, that would explain it. Other than that, nothing of note here.

No sirens sounded where I live, which surprised me, because for a time the NWS advised of an 80 mph wind threat in its warning message.

I did get a warning alert to my phone when I was out ahead of the thing making my stop in Southfield on the way to Detroit. 15 phones going off at once is an interesting noise.
