First significant winter storm of the year appears on tap for SE Michigan
No snowmaker has given my area more than 3 inches of snow all winter.
That's likely about to change. Time of impact: Wednesday late afternoon into the morning Thursday.
Cold air from Canada is expected to link up with Gulf moisture and create a significant storm system that travels from the TN valley, into eastern Ohio and then into NW PA, and upstate NY.
Early indications are for a general 3 to 6 inches of snow across most of SE Michigan, with downriver areas along I-75 possibly seeing a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain.
Depending on system phasing, the snow totals may need to be increased. Eight inch totals are not out of the question for some spots.

Not looking like it. I will say projected snow totals are more impressive for southern Ontario than here.

The higher end of 3-6 inches looks about right. Looks like most of the thumb and south of a diagonal line will get 4 or 5 inches.
Up here in northeast Michigan, though, the last snowstorm of a few days ago brought us about 11 inches when forecasts were for 3-5, even the morning of.

We're supposed to get slammed with an atmospheric river W/Th. Gonna move down to Southern California too so the burn areas might really get hit.

On the plus side, the water sheds will be replenished. But yeah, the flooding is gonna suck.

I can't remember the last time we had a week without at least one school closing. I've had it with this shit.

We have 110" this year, and we haven't had a snow day since before Christmas. It snows in Michigan, I thought you knew.

The story I keep getting is "Oh, there's back roads and dirt roads they can't salt"
so busses can't get through. I grew up going to Utica Community Schools, it took the four horsemen to close schools.

We have bussing here with thousands of kids in my school district. Plus not everyone can afford a dual 4x4 truck like up there. It's also too dangerous for kids to walk due to the way people drive here. Many side streets are narrow as well.

Our district has 10,000 students spread across 55 miles of rural unplowed roads. We only cancel for white outs. And we don't all have rollin coal Trumpmobiles.MotorCityRadioFreak wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 9:38 pmWe have bussing here with thousands of kids in my school district. Keep up son, these days it's a RAV4 with an M22 sticker with some old suburbanite transplant on board. We're being invaded by retirees.GrahamWellington wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 6:30 amNever underestimate the power of a Subaru with a Coexist bumper sticker.TC Talks wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 9:47 pmOur district has 10,000 students spread across 55 miles of rural unplowed roads. Re: First significant winter storm of the year appears on tap for SE Michigan
This will be a long duration storm, so total snowfall of 5 to 8 inches over a widespread area of the southern two-thirds of the lower peninsula is looking quite likely. Areas near the Ohio border will probably see 3 to 5 inches of snow.
