Wine Country Radio

Unread post by radio_sparty »

The contemporary country format previously reported on this thread as "Wine Country Radio" originating on 106.3 WJML is now being heard on 960 WHAK and 1210 WJNL as of this afternoon. It does not appear on the station formerly known as 1110 WJML which continues to be silent or at very low power.

Muscatel Country Radio would be more accurate.

In any event, many lingering questions remain...why did Roy walk away from his AM, when he basically had access to the old JML property in perpetuity?

Why the call letter swap? Why not just make 106.3 WJML-FM?

Somebody kicking the tires on these hobbled facilities?

Looks like WWMN (1110 Petoskey),may soon be going to the West Central Michigan Media Ministries group.

106.3 should have never left Ludington.

WKLA on 106.3 had a decent signal that got out 30-40 miles. Now, WKLA on 96.3 barely makes it 20-25 miles (WMOM and WHCH, which run less power than 96.3 WKLA, both get out farther; I was able to pick up both WHCH and WMOM along M-55 in Wexford County a couple of weeks ago)

I was in Ludington a couple of years ago and recall WKLA's signal already starting to become scratchy by the time we got to Walhalla while driving east along US-10. When it was on 106.3, I used to pick them up on rare occasions as far away as Gaylord (before Onaway came on the air).

How would that station happen to make money in Luddington?

It would have become another Jesus station for a shitty operator like Smile FM.

They probably would have been better off with Roy's now deleted AM on 750. At least it had nighttime service. :smokin
