Hegseth has been confirmed as Defense Secretary 51-50… Vance had to break the tie to get him over the line.

Mexico denied permission for a military plane of deportees to fly there.

Guatemala received two military planes and one chartered commercial aircraft on Friday.

Reuters…
Mexico has refused a request from President Donald Trump's administration to allow a U.S. military aircraft deporting migrants to land in the country, a U.S. official and a Mexican official told Reuters.

U.S. military aircraft carried out two similar flights, each with about 80 migrants, to Guatemala on Friday. The government was not able to move ahead with a plan to have a C-17 transport aircraft land in Mexico, however, after the country denied permission.

A U.S. official and a Mexican official confirmed the decision, which was first reported by NBC News.
Mexico's foreign ministry, in a statement late on Friday, said the country had a "very great relationship" with the U.S. and cooperated on issues such as immigration.

"When it comes to repatriations, we will always accept the arrival of Mexicans to our territory with open arms," the ministry said.

The Mexican official did not give a reason for the denial of permission to land, while the foreign ministry did not mention the incident.

Trump's administration earlier this week announced it was re-launching the program known as "Remain in Mexico," which forced non-Mexican asylum seekers to wait in Mexico until their cases in the United States were resolved.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Wednesday such a move would require the country receiving the asylum-seekers to agree, and that Mexico had not done so.

The U.S. State Department and the Pentagon did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

U.S.-Mexico relations have come into sharp focus since Trump started his second term on Monday with the declaration of a national emergency along the two nations' shared border. He has ordered 1,500 additional U.S. troops there so far, and officials have said thousands more could deploy soon.

The president has declared Mexican drug cartels terrorist organizations, renamed the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America and threatened an across-the-board 25% duty on Mexican goods beginning in February.

Sheinbaum has sought to avoid escalating the situation and expressed openness toward accommodating Mexican nationals who are returned.

But the leftist leader has also said she does not agree with mass deportations and that Mexican immigrants are vital to the U.S. economy.

The use of U.S. military aircraft to carry out deportation flights is part of the Pentagon's response to Trump's national emergency declaration on Monday.

In the past, U.S. military aircraft have been used to relocate individuals from one country to another, like during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.
This was the first time in recent memory that U.S. military aircraft were used to fly migrants out of the country, one U.S. official said.

The Pentagon has said that the U.S. military would provide flights to deport more than 5,000 immigrants held by U.S. authorities in El Paso, Texas, and San Diego, California.

Guatemala also on Friday received a third flight of about 80 deported migrants on a chartered commercial aircraft, Guatemalan authorities told Reuters.

If anyone would be so kind as to let me know. I'll keep watching here to see if that happens.
Me again - just got gas at Costco for $2.93/gallon. Two weeks ago, it was $2.69.
You don't say. Hmm. That's weird.

I'm sure he's cooking something up. There's gotta be an EO in that pile somewhere. It's probably beneath the "Punching Babies and R@ping Waitresses Act".
Uh oh - egg prices not looking good:
On a trip to a Walmart in Ozark, Mo., in early January, Laura Modrell was surprised to see shoppers “standing around and gasping” in the grocery’s dairy section. As she got closer, she saw that the shelves, where there would normally be stacks of egg cartons, were nearly empty.

“All of the normal-size cartons of eggs were practically gone,” Ms. Modrell said. “I heard some elderly people being really upset.”

Across the country, shoppers in grocery stores are facing empty shelves and higher prices for what has traditionally been an inexpensive source of protein: eggs.

And it’s likely to get worse.

Volatile egg prices have been a part of the grocery shopping experience partly because of inflation, but also because of an avian influenza, or bird flu, that made its way to the United States in 2022. That influenza, caused by the H5N1 virus, has infected or killed 136 million birds thus far.

This is bad:
President Trump fired 17 inspectors general, the internal watchdogs who monitor federal agencies, on Friday night, capping a week of dramatic shake-ups of the federal bureaucracy focused on loyalty to the president, three people with knowledge of the matter said.

The sweeping move did not affect Michael E. Horowitz, the inspector general for the Justice Department, according to one of the people with knowledge of the matter. But inspectors general at several major agencies were believed to have been fired.

The Washington Post reported the firings earlier. A White House spokesman did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

The firings threatened to upend the traditional independence of the internal watchdogs, and critics of Mr. Trump reacted with alarm.
This is ripping away an accountability guardrail that will leave Trump unchecked.

To continue to attack someone with something you know isn't true is somewhere within the definition of human garbage.

Is this in the same drawer with Hegseths “untrue” bad behavior? There can be no better definition of hypocritical snowflake than a Trump supporter whining about others making fun of his guys… the universe has put up with it for 8 years and counting now and not had much response. Too bad.

Some of you will be shocked by this, but Trump broke the law by firing the IGs:
Under federal law, Congress is supposed to receive a 30-day notice before an IG is dismissed. But Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said that did not happen. “There may be good reason the IGs were fired. We need to know that if so. I’d like further explanation from President Trump. Regardless, the 30 day detailed notice of removal that the law demands was not provided to Congress,” he said in a statement to Government Executive.

To use one of Matt's favorite words, the selective use of what-about-ism in here as a defense is fascinating. You call me out for whataboutism when it suits your position, but in an example like this where Matt's continued criticism of Vance is based on a falsehood, all I hear is BUT WHAT ABOUT TRUMP!!!????

How do you know it's a falsehood? Only Vance knows. Also, this is the felon/traitor watch thread, and a rapist was just confirmed as SecDef last night by an ohio man who may or may not have fucked a couch. The jokes write themselves. Hey, you should be happy with 51/51 and 1,600 Washingtons.
