NYT:
Where have I heard "report your neighbors" before?Federal workers were given 10 days to report on attempts to ‘disguise’ D.E.I. programs.
The Trump administration on Wednesday threatened federal employees with “adverse consequences” if they fail to report on colleagues who defy orders to purge diversity, equity and inclusion efforts from their agencies.
Tens of thousands of workers were put on notice that officials would not tolerate any efforts to “disguise these programs by using coded or imprecise language.” Emails sent out, which were based on a template from the Office of Personnel Management, gave employees 10 days to report their observations to a special email account without risking disciplinary action.
“There will be no adverse consequences for timely reporting this information,” the template sent to agency heads said. “However, failure to report this information within 10 days may result in adverse consequences.”
The message also said: “These programs divided Americans by race, wasted taxpayer dollars and resulted in shameful discrimination.”
Some agencies, such as the Education Department and the State Department, sent the template to their employees on Wednesday. Other agencies made slight modifications when they sent emails to their workers. The Department of Homeland Security, for example, said failure to report D.E.I. efforts “will result” in adverse consequences.
The warnings were a dramatic escalation of Mr. Trump’s war on diversity programs that seek to reverse decades of systemic inequities and make the federal government look more like America. They were also part of a broader assault on the federal work force, which the president has long viewed as a bloated bureaucracy in need of large-scale reduction. He has pledged to eliminate departments and has ordered remote workers back to the office.
In his Inaugural Address, Mr. Trump said he would stop efforts to “socially engineer race and gender into every aspect of public and private life.”
“We will forge a society that is colorblind and merit-based,” Mr. Trump declared during the address.
On Tuesday night, the Trump administration released a memorandum that employees working in D.E.I. offices across the federal government would be placed on administrative leave by 5 p.m. Wednesday, the first step toward shutting down the offices and programs altogether. Agencies were ordered to devise plans to lay off the staff members by Jan. 31.
Mr. Trump’s orders were felt within hours of that memorandum being issued.
Stop-work orders went out as early as Wednesday morning. A contractor for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of retribution, was told to stop a project collecting demographic data for the agency, which for years has documented details on gender, race and veteran status. The person said the results of a D.E.I. survey conducted last year would no longer be released next month, as planned.
Also on Wednesday, asylum officers with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services had their invites to an event honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. canceled, according to an email obtained by The New York Times. The event, planned for Jan. 29, was set to include speakers discussing Dr. King’s legacy and a reading of his “I Have a Dream” speech.
It was to be put on by the Houston office at the agency.
Everett Kelley, the president of the American Federation of Government Employees, said Mr. Trump’s attacks on D.E.I. were “just a smoke screen for firing civil servants.”

Interesting that you never hear about non-white victims of violence by groups of white trash or immigrants that defend against crimes. The white christian right doesn't truly give a fuck about all people.

NYT
The State Department abruptly canceled travel for thousands of refugees already approved to fly to the United States, days before a deadline that President Trump had set for suspending the resettlement program that provides safe haven for people fleeing persecution.
The cancellation of the flights comes on the heels of an executive order signed by Mr. Trump on Monday that indefinitely paused the refugee resettlement. The order effectively grinds to a halt the process of bringing refugees into the country, which involves multiple federal agencies, as well as nonprofits that receive the newcomers.
More than 10,000 refugees were currently in the pipeline to travel to the United States, according to government data. They include Afghans who faced danger because of their association with the United States before the military withdrawal from Afghanistan. Among other refugees who had been approved for travel were people from Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.
The sudden halt to the flights was an agonizing blow to refugees who had been following a complicated and lengthy process to enter the country legally, resettlement group workers said.

Re: Trumpwatch 2.0
Yo Turkeytop, quick question. What is the percentage of parts of United States origin needed in order for an automobile to be labeled "Made in USA" when assembled in Canada or Mexico? Will the product you folks slap together qualify or be subject to tariff?
Re: Trumpwatch 2.0
I think it was 70% for buy America compliance when federal dollars are involved plus final assembly. We have buses built here and they make the skeleton in Canada, ship them a few miles across the border and assemble them. Made in USA my ass.Nightfly 2.0 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 7:58 pmYo Turkeytop, quick question. Re: Trumpwatch 2.0
I don't know the answer to that. The North American auto industry is so integrated that just about every vehicle, regardless of where the final assembly takes place, is built from parts manufactured in both countries.Nightfly 2.0 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 7:58 pmYo Turkeytop, quick question. I read somewhere that every part crosses the border about seven times during the manufacture of the vehicle.
The guidlines set out by my Union (unenforcable) for our members, is that any vehicle we purchase should be Union built in North America, with at least 60% North American content. That percentage for content has been adjusted lower and lower over the years. I remember when it was 75%, but no vehicle nowadays meets that criteria.

Mexico is also part of North America.Turkeytop wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2025 8:53 pmI don't know the answer to that. Re: Trumpwatch 2.0
Incredible…
https://abc7news.com/post/president-don ... /15823953/President Donald Trump - with top technology CEOs at his side Tuesday afternoon - announced a new $500 billion artificial intelligence infrastructure project. But when the conversation turned to California's wildfires, Trump went off the rails.
"When you're a rich person you like to take showers," he said.
He claimed Los Angeles limits residents to just 38 gallons of water a day, and referred to some mythical "valve" that could bring limitless water to L.A., but that officials instead diverted to the ocean.
"They have a valve, think of a sink but multiply it by many thousands of times the size of it, it's massive. And you turn it back toward Los Angeles. Why aren't they doing it? They either have a death wish, they're stupid or there's something else going on that we don't understand," Trump said.
Trump, who criticized the response to the wildfires during his inaugural address, has said he will travel to Los Angeles on Friday.

Re: Trumpwatch 2.0
Hi, everyone. Me again. I was just sitting here eating packzi after putting the baby down.
I rolled back and I checked around (even noticing my post in the other thread was totally ignored), and I still can't find anything the president or the congress has done for those struggling, forgotten Americans who can't pay their bills and have to put things back on the shelf at the grocery store.
I've seen a lot of talk about DEI boogeymen, Mexican boogeymen, screwing people who are working on coming here legally, I heard something about a Nazi salute, and having heard about being tired of money in politics and elitist billionaires hanging around and buying politicians...I'm seeing a lot of money in politics and elitist billionaires hanging around politicians.
Can anyone name anything immediate done by either the congress or President that helps those that are living in mud huts and sucking dick for clean water after Joe Biden? Or were we more concerned with fringe, outside, social issues and being cruel to people? Was getting the W all that mattered?
I paid 3.39 a gallon today. My curiosity gets the better of me.
I was promised economic prosperity.

Why are there so many struggling, forgotten Americans living in mud huts when we just had 4 years of a Democrat as President?
