Open Letter to The Grateful Dead Station
Re: Open Letter to The Grateful Dead Station
The station was down last night after the severe storms...
Hal Payne, Phil Orth and Michael O'Shea. WCCW was quite a station of swank.

Re: Open Letter to The Grateful Dead Station
I'm all but assuming those billing figures were before Q101 (now Eagle 101.5) and WMOM came on. I knew that Chickering owned WKLA AM/FM, Hedstrom had WMTE AM/FM, and Hoppe had WRQT. What station (or stations) did Marc Rosseels own in that area?Colonel Flagg wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 11:28 am I wonder how many wannabe broadcasters have looked at Yob's stations? My best guess is "not many"
As for Roy's stations, yes, there was a time when the Benzie and Manistee stations were billing between $12,000 and $25,000 a month. However, a mild winter is all it took to unravel those numbers. Collections in Manistee were always a challenge, even in the 70's and 80's when my friend Chuck Hedstrom was there.
John Chickering, Chuck Hedstrom, Roger Hoppe, and Marc Rosseels were very wise to exit laughing when they did. I could say the same thing about Fabiano-Strickler (WCCW) in TC. I'm still a little mad at Hal Payne (R.I.P) for talking me into going up there. But hey, that's showbiz.
Also, is John Yob related to Chuck Yob, who was a member of the RNC for many years?
Re: Open Letter to The Grateful Dead Station
Some of these were Chuck's stations.

If you give the box a kick, you may not like what you hear.
I heard a rumor that changes may be coming.

Re: Open Letter to The Grateful Dead Station
Yes, change's have come.101.1 and 1210 AM are both off air, while 106.3 WWMN is now playing a today's type country format. Idi'ing as Wine country radio.Interesting, one of their taglines is "country by day, dead during the night."
On a unrelated note, looks like Northern Christian Radio has an application with the FCC to take control of WFDX 92.5.

Re: Open Letter to The Grateful Dead Station
NCR ending up with 92.5 is not a surprise, especially with WPHN having a CP to move to its tower. I predict 92.5 ends up as a simulcast of 89.9/107.9, which is now running a praise and worship format.ADD in TC wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 6:20 pm Yes, change's have come.101.1 and 1210 AM are both off air, while 106.3 WWMN is now playing a today's type country format. Re: Open Letter to The Grateful Dead Station
Any update on these stations in the past month? Are they still running this same format with the same name, or I suppose I should ask if it's only 106.3 and if 101.1 and 1210 are still off? "Country by Day, Dead During the Night" seems to imply country daytime and Grateful Dead at night still?ADD in TC wrote: ↑Mon Oct 14, 2024 6:20 pm Yes, change's have come.101.1 and 1210 AM are both off air, while 106.3 WWMN is now playing a today's type country format. The second that happened, everyone I knew went back to Spotify. Seriously, I haven't so much as stopped on the station, it could be off the air.cckadlec wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 2:49 amAny update on these stations in the past month? Re: Open Letter to The Grateful Dead Station
Well, you turn on that radio and switch to that station I'm asking as to update a radio database. Being 90 miles to the south of it, all I hear is WGLM and Maverick usually, so I can't check by myself to confirm.TC Talks wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 7:35 amThe second that happened, everyone I knew went back to Spotify. As a Grateful Dead station, they sure were quite unique, not that I liked it. Waiting for their once-an-hour station ID (the only one seemed to be at the top of the hour), I had to wait through the 26-MINUTE version of "Dark Star" for what I thought would be a 4 or 5-minute recording. I didn't appreciate that much and I now sort of loathe the band, but credit for the unique format for sure.

The HH income for a dead fan is likely more respectable than a 3rd/4th "also ran" country station with coverage in Benzie and Manistee counties.
My AM radio is stored in my bus, but I'll try to listen top of the hour this week.

Re: Open Letter to The Grateful Dead Station
106.3 was on as of 11/11 with country during the day and the Grateful Dead by night. 101.1 was sports (likely WGRY). At least they're running programming *cough*WLDR*cough* - WLDR was running an open carrier with static RDSTC Talks wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 3:55 pmYeah baby!cckadlec wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 12:27 pm As a Grateful Dead station, they sure were quite unique, not that I liked it.
