Re: WNIC flips to all-Christmas
Townsquare has flipped WFMK and Cars 108, which takes away two more presets for roughly the next week.
Meanwhile, I think I've found a new Christmas soundtrack once I get in the mood for it... 98.9 WEMP out of Wisconsin. It reminds me a lot of the old WJOI "Christmas Festival of Music" from the '80s and '90s, probably because they play a lot of the custom Bonneville cuts WJOI played back then. The vocals are mostly "adult standards" artists like Barbra Streisand, Johnny Mathis, Sinatra, Patti Page, even Seth MacFarlane, not a Mariah Carey or Taylor Swift cut in sight. Amy Grant and Michael Buble is about as contemporary as they get.

Re: WNIC flips to all-Christmas
Does any station still play Andy Williams, Ed Ames, Bing Crosby (without David Bowie), Bobby Helms, the Harry Simone Chorale, and some of the other great holiday songs and singers of the 50s and 60s?

Re: WNIC flips to all-Christmas
WEMP probably plays most if not all of those artists to some extent. Looking at their recent play log, their most played artists are probably Johnny Mathis and Barbra Streisand.
A look through the songs played on Wednesday turned up these artists being played: Air Supply, Ed Ames, Julie Andrews, Tony Bennett, Michael Buble, The Carpenters, Vikki Carr, June Christy, Harry Connick Jr., Bing Crosby (solo and with Rosemary Clooney), Doris Day, Jose Feliciano ("Feliz Navidad" being perhaps the only "really polarizing" Christmas song in their rotation), Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Judy Garland, Amy Grant, Burl Ives, Jack Jones (recent RIP), Eartha Kitt (they do NOT play the Madonna or Taylor Swift versions of "Santa Baby"), Patti LaBelle, Nicolette Larson, The Lettermen, Kenny Loggins, Barry Manilow, Al Martino, Johnny Mathis, Martina McBride, Idina Menzel, MercyMe, Anne Murray, Jim Nabors, Olivia Newton-John, 98 Degrees (maybe the only "kiddie pop" artist they play), Pentatonix, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Frank Sinatra, Singers Unlimited, Kay Starr, Steve and Eydie, Barbra Streisand, Third Day, Carrie Underwood, Bobby Vinton, and Wynonna.

Re: WNIC flips to all-Christmas
I certainly don't understand some of the random newer Christmas songs wnic plays while not playing other more popular ones. Or why certain songs are on a heavy rotation. But to be fair, they play PLENTY of songs from the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, including all the artists you named (except Ed ames).amehloldiesfan wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 11:15 pm Does any station still play Andy Williams, Ed Ames, Bing Crosby (without David Bowie), Bobby Helms, the Harry Simone Chorale, and some of the other great holiday songs and singers of the 50s and 60s?
Re: WNIC flips to all-Christmas
I discovered last night that Music Choice on Xfinity has a Classic Christmas channel at 412 to go along with the newer Christmas songs that are played on the Sound of the Seasons channel at 441. From what I can tell, 412 is usually reggae music (https://www.quora.com/What-is-a-full-li ... c-channels).Discopop wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 10:01 amI certainly don't understand some of the random newer Christmas songs wnic plays while not playing other more popular ones. Sirius xm Holiday Traditions is an EXCELLENT choice for the classic christmas songs. About the newest they will play is the Carpenters.Bobbert wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 11:20 amI discovered last night that Music Choice on Xfinity has a Classic Christmas channel at 412 to go along with the newer Christmas songs that are played on the Sound of the Seasons channel at 441. Re: WNIC flips to all-Christmas
Back in 2013, when WOMC went all Christmas, They played all these classics. And not only the heavy rotation classics, but like 200 unique songs (most I have never heard in my life). But everyone on here made fun of them for it, asking why they are not playing the same 10 songs over and over like WNICamehloldiesfan wrote: ↑Wed Nov 20, 2024 11:15 pm Does any station still play Andy Williams, Ed Ames, Bing Crosby (without David Bowie), Bobby Helms, the Harry Simone Chorale, and some of the other great holiday songs and singers of the 50s and 60s?

Now you guys want them back
Music is my life.

I was listening to Holiday Traditions in the car last night and they played a song by Ed Ames.Discopop wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 12:03 pmSirius xm Holiday Traditions is an EXCELLENT choice for the classic christmas songs. Re: WNIC flips to all-Christmas
Holiday Traditions is a great channel too. Channel 412 seems to play less of the more solemn, religious songs like what Mario Lanza sings. It also plays some relatively recent artists who work in a traditional mode, like Harry Connick, Jr. and David Foster.Discopop wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 12:03 pmSirius xm Holiday Traditions is an EXCELLENT choice for the classic christmas songs. I haven't heard Neil Diamond's "Christmas Medley" since WOMC did the all-Christmas thing.stopnswop2 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 9:39 pmBack in 2013, when WOMC went all Christmas, They played all these classics. Re: WNIC flips to all-Christmas
You mean "Cherry Cherry Christmas"? I remember hearing that on WOMC many moons ago.
Now that WOMC-HD2 is simulcasting 910 AM, I assume Audacy's foracy into Christmas music in Detroit is over, unless they flip 98.7 HD2.
As for me, I spent the evening decorating our tree and my soundtrack was WEMP, until my mom complained it sounded "too classical" and we switched over to WFMK for some holiday pop (nothing terrible though). While WEMP was on, they played "Be a Child at Christmas Time" by Doris Day. That's one you'll never hear in between Mariah and Whamageddon on WNIC.

Re: WNIC flips to all-Christmas
I'm already sick of it.
Re: WNIC flips to all-Christmas
I’m not quite ready for the holiday mojo yet ……
WNIC can keep their playlist and I’ll just keep passing the preset on by.
