I still think there is something odd about the timing of that fire. But anyway...

Wasn't the move related to snow/ice issues?

WNEM would likely be quite happy if WWTV were to move its news operation much farther away from Mt. Pleasant, Clare and Gladwin.
Spectrum in Mount Pleasant has both WNEM and WWTV. The others are Flint stations.

There is a certain poster here who has been derisive about this poster being interested and posting links to History Cards. It is said that those who don't know History are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past. The History Cards cannot be credibly rewritten. There is a lot of misinformation on Wikipedia. There is a lot of denial of what has happened over the years that can be easily and credibly contradicted.

There was another fire at WWTV around 1961, about the time that WWTV moved from channel 13 to channel 9. Wikipedia stated that moving to Channel 9 allowed them to serve the entire Northern half of the lower peninsula. It appears that it was an early increase in tower height that allowed that, not moving to Channel 9. The move from Channel 13 was made because it was dropped in to Grand Rapids to put what is WZZM-TV 13 on the air. If anything, moving to Channel 9 created a greater population affected by interference between WWTV 9 and CKLW-TV/CBET 9. CKLW-TV/CBET got the worst of it, often resulting in areas which used to be receivable which were affected by cochannel interference, particularly in the late evening hours.

WWTV has the highest HAAT from the highest elevation in the Lower Peninsula, and now has the highest ERP of any VHF station in the Lower Peninsula. It would be a great error for them to move the tower to Traverse City's version of "Mt. Wilson". They would likely lose that local advertising that this certain poster regards as unimportant. They already have a translator there on "Mt. Wilson", to serve the most difficult and significant terrain hole in Michigan.

First place, whey would they need to move the transmitter? Just microwave the signal from TC to the existing facility, which has been stated here many times, is one of the tallest in the US. I remember when 106.7 moved to Traverse City, they just microwaved the signal back to Elmira from Hastings St.

"The word in our lunch room is that we can’t afford the maintenance of the building, so they want to sell it and move everything to TC. Many people are planning on leaving because they don’t want to drive to TC."

MW you said moving really wont help the top line ad wise. Thats true, but cutting payroll will. Many people leaving will accomplish that goal nicely.

Uh, the job may be relocated, but the work will still be there. People will still be needed to do it.
And yeah, BZ, why would they want to move the transmitter?

Not much of a TV watcher, but I noticed last night that the PM anchor (Adam bartamay?)was clearly reporting the news in a different studio. The weather was being done in Cadillac.

Off topic, but that weekend weather reporter is no longer listed on their WWTV's website.

As far as that land south of Cadillac,it would seem that if it wasn't for the main building,it would be a decent place for a few gas stations and possibly a fast food joint or two.

A 1295 foot tower has a very large guy wire footprint.

I know of many stations recently that are being seriously downgraded to sell the property, and the tower removed.

92.9 moved, and it's nowhere near the facility it used to be.

And no one mentioned that Channel 32 is also now on the tower. It used to be nearby on another tower.

I don't think they could get enough for the property to make moving worthwhile.

I am aware of guy wires and crumple zones. Most towers collapse in a relatively small area as they lose structural integrity when they hit that tipping point, however those guy wires can do some major damage when they snap.
The question was, why would they want to move their transmitter? I have moved studios several times, same product, different STL/TSL path.

Yes. Weekend Meteorologist Teagen Reeves went back east to a position in Vermont. She is very talented and very bright. So Tom Ohare leaves and his Nanboo Farms is going to be sold?? Wonder if that is why Tom left. He was told by the Comma of their plans.

Adam Bartamay lives in TC. I would think it is going to be easier to attract talent in Traverse City than Cadillac. As for space, TC has tons of office space downtown at the moment, I bet they could move into the first floor of the building they are in.

Is there a great financial benefit of having a news studio and business office in a somewhat prime downtown area? Seems to me that being in a spot where there old TC studio was(Arrow Park Drive Business Park)would be a better choice.

Way off topic, but does anyone know if Newsnet's Cadillac studio on the north end of town currently being used?
