The technical side of broadcasting. Think IBOC is a sham? Talk about it here! How about HDTV? Post DX reports here as well.

Requirements for Broadcast Public File

Unread post by TC Talks »

What are the licensee requirements for having a public file at or near the COL?

Trying not to file an FCC complaint but it seems some of our broadcasters have no local address, or a public file hundreds of miles from COL.

It's online these days. A website you go to to upload the quarterly reports and all that good stuff. A link to the site where your stuff is has to be online for folks to click and read. Most of us put it somewhere on station website.

And if a public file hasn't been updated on the website (there is no website) nor at the FCC since 2022, AND the phone number and address no longer connect with the station?

This is a "special" kind of operator.

That would be a violation. Reports are due by the tenth of the month after the end of the quarter. Address and phone number should also be current.

Public File is a complete waste of time. It's just a way for the FCC to write up violations and collect massive fines. Colonel Flagg has worked for more than a dozen radio stations, owned a few more, and has never once had anyone ask to see the Public File. With smaller and smaller staffing, this exercise in futility should be eliminated, but now that it's online, it's too easy of a money grab for the FCC.

That Smokey the Bear PSA has aired over 100 times this month. Who cares?

Yet some owners mistakenly confuse the frequency as their property. These same owners likely complain about taxes, yet they enjoy all the benefits.

Let's see what happens if a complaint is filed.
